Tape on frontend for a roadtrip?

Anyone ever use tape to protect the front of your car on a long road trip?

I wish I had something on my 06 on a trip back from Oklahoma City, got caught in a dust storm that did a number on my paint.

What kind of tape did you have in mind?

Won't your insurance cover that?

Mine didn't. It caused dozens of small chips on the front of the hood and bumper. I have since have traded the car (just last week in fact) on another stang.

Try Pam, A guy where I work tried it on his Expedition and said the bugs just wiped right off.

Yes, I use Saran Wrap and the blue painters tape for protection and it works....might get some weird looks but it saves you a bit.

I wouldnt realy worry about it that much. There's not really agoodway to completely protectyour car. That being said, just keep a nice coat of wax on, and wash it as soon as you can aftewords, andput baking soda in your wash mix, bugs and stff should come right off.

Going to shows that require long drives, I use Furniture wrap. Get it any hardware store, large roll, nice and wide, and clings to itself.

If you guys are going to wrap the front end, just be careful to cut out openings for the grille so air can get to the radiator. It would be a shame to overheat on the way to a show.

If you can spare parting with $130, get the bra from Ford. I picked one up a couple of days before my road trip through Illinois. It fit like a glove and there was no flapping or paint scratches whatsoever. I couldn't believe the number of bugs plastered on it. I just took it off and the bugs wiped off the vinyl with a damp cloth.

I was pleasantly surprised that you could not see the hood part from the driver's seat.

no tape

Use Static Cling Window Tint, available at most auto stores. if you have a black or alloy it works well. just spray some water and put it where you want. Great on front and rear bumper covers

Erik, I use painters tape on my bumper all the time, IF I'm doing a long highway road trip (Carlisle to home, several hours). Its saves the paint from bugs, stones, you name it. I also used it on my chin spoiler when it was freshly painted, as they tend to be "rock magnets", since they sit so low. I never cared who saw the tape on the car. All I know, is I didn't have to worry about constant trips to the body shop for touch ups.
