Taking the dash apart
I'm looking to install a new Shaker 500 I got off ebay (the old one had problems), but i'm not quite sure how to take the dash apart to get to it. I'm a little hesitant to start ripping into my car, so does anyone have any suggestions how to do this? What panels should I remove first, any hidden screws/clips, etc? I'd usually turn to a repair manual for this (have with all my other cars) but i'm not sure they have one for the new stangs yet. Any help appreciated, thanks

Remove center stack by removing the two screws located under the armrest. (Make sure you pull the ebrake up and if you have an automatic move it to neuteral before removing center stack.
remove the two panels on each side of the stereo by pulling. There are no screws holding them on.
unscrew the visible screws ont the center console and disconnect the wires that go to (info/reset/**) buttons as well as the power plug outlet, the (hazard/tcs/airbag) buttons, and connectors that go to the a/c plugs on both sides. After that pull away center console.
This will expose the four screws holding the stereo in place. Then change out the head you unit and reverse process.
Here's an install guide with pics. I should have just posted this.

Sweet! Thanks for the help man. Yeah...my fist kind of broke the old Shaker 500... The dealer was ready to replace it, but they couldn't get it to skip, so they had no justifiable reason to replace it. It stopped skipping for a while after that, and then I bought another spindle of Fujifilm discs, so it's been working normally for a while. I'm glad Ford made it relatively easy to get to, a lot nicer than trying to replace the deck in my first car.

Thank you very much for posting the Crutchfield instructions.
I'm kind of torn between going with the Shaker 500 or sticking with the base system and upgrading to a $130 Pioneer MP3 player.

Does a large amount of the Shakers have these problems? I mean mine jumps back to track 01 once in a while, skips now and then...kind of frustrating. To me, an upgrade to an aftermarket replacement seems to be the only way to go. Some of them look real sweet in the interior too...!

I don't like the idea of taking the car back to the dealer for these type of problems, because I know I'll end up with a marred/scratched dashboard, soiled carpet and seats, and additional problems.

Most of the dealerships' service dept won't give a crap about how dirty they get your car. I have had dirt prints on my dash and seats. Grease stuck on my leather seats, from the service person's shirt. The one time that I let them do an oil change, they get oil on the block and my intake.
Nobody will care more about your own things more than you.

I think it is because the dealership mechanics might be jealous of your car and thus don't give a rat's a$$. If you have a local dealership with employees that take pride in their work and keep customers' cars clean before the customer picks it up, then by all means go there for service. I have yet to find such a mythical beast.

You mean like having the rear passenger side panel gouged up when they tried to pop it back into place? And then scratching up the center console when replacing the panel they marred? And then mounting that new panel OVER THE SEATBELT? . Yeah i'm pretty sure I'll do my own interior work myself from now on...
