HELP? I am having t-top withdraws..............

Why is it that no cars these days have t-tops. Those were so cool back in the day ( not that I am an old lady or anything). I thought they were sporty and cool looking. Why wont anyone have those anymore? :bang:

because they are possibly the worst thing ever invented EVER.

When it rains you get a shower, they are bulky and horrible to take off and put in thier covers, they are a pain to snap on..... I drove a Ttop car for 3 years and despised every heartbreaking second of it. Replaced it with a pontiac sunbird. ( Please help me break this Gm cycle I have been in!!) Sure, they look cool, but the price you paid to have them did not justify at all. Give me a sunroof or moon roof any day.

The only reason there were T-tops is because convertibles were considered unsafe. T-Tops became popular in the mid 70's when there were not convertibles being built. The only car to cling to the t-top were the F-bodies.

There are many reasons you won't see t-tops on newer cars.

-They leak (after a few years)
-They ruin structural integrity
-You can get a convertible instead
-Just another complex piece to engineer

I think the sun roofs have taken over the in between hard top and convertible. Much more practical, costs less, don't leak, etc.

Yeh, I hear ya. You all made some good points. It just seems that with todays styles and technology, someone could come up with a t-top that is thiner and doesn't leak. heck..my sunroof leaked when I first got my old car cause the tube was kinked, so anything can leak. It is just a shame. They really looked sharp on some cars. no more t-tops!

JMS Products Inc makes a kit to give a mustang a Targa top or T-Top. They will most likely have a kit available for the 05 they have already confirmed that they will be making products for the 05 but I'm not sure which ones. Their website is http://www.jmsproductsinc.com

Ew... I could, ahem, urinate on the wheels for you, but that wouldn't make the whole thing yellow.

I don't know about how you guys feel, but I think the safety of my car would be very comprimsed with the roof hacked out.

I have never been a fan of the targa top. nothing like a big parachute to slow you down.

The car I saw at Carlisle was not a chopped coupe, but started life as a convertible, got a fiberglass hardtop bolted on with a removable top portion. It's no more dangerous than a convertible is.

I wouldn't want a soft top, but I'd love a glass top like on Vettes. I also love T-tops. Had em on my 86 GT and they didn't leak (all you have to do is replace the weatherstripping once in a while), and yes, they are a pain to take out, but I loved em anyway!

My dad's had his '86 Trans Am for 18 years now and they've never leaked a bit. However, the only time in my 18 years on Earth that I've ridden with them off is on the way back from a drag race. I remember it being a pain to take them off and put them in the hatch and then when we got home put them back on... Blah.. I'm blabbing. I guess the main reason they aren't around anymore is because the troubles outweigh the positives.
