Switching wheels with TPMS

I've got a set of take off wheels/tires for winter and wondered if the wheels came off of a car do they need to be recalibrated?

Looked at TPMS Sensor Training doc 204-04-1 and it says "NOTE: the TPMS system is not affected by wheel and tire rotation" and it talks about new sensors and turning them on.

Do the sensors have to be reset? And what is the right tool PN? I've seen a couple 8C2T1A203AB and 8C2Z1A203A

Thanks!

Just did a similar thing. Put on wheels from a 2009 GT. After about 100 miles a Tire Pressure Monitoring System Failure message came on the message center. The car needs to learn the new sensors. The dealer had a wand type tool. Turned the key on and off a few times to get the car in learn mode then waved the wand near the sensor location until the horn honked for each wheel. The system does not care what corner the wheel is on. Only that it knows the sensor ID. The dealer where I bought the car from did it no charge in about 2 minutes.

I ordered the kit from American Muscle. The tool is Ford PN#8C2Z1A203A.

The wheels and tires came from NewTakeOff.

I put the wheels on the car and could not get 3 of the 4 wheels to calibrate. I drove it a few miles and raised /lowered the pressure. The only tire that beeps is the drivers rear.

Any ideas?

Sensor location is supposed to be opposite the valve stem. But you may want to pass the tool around the rest of the wheel. Maybe the far side. Pass the tool over the side walls instead of the rim. Thats what the the man did on mine when he had trouble getting one to respond.

I'll try some more.

Got annoyed and put the other rims back on. Calibrated no problem!

If I recall correctly, the directions say to point the tool at the valve stem, even though the sensor is in the opposite location. That did not work for me -- I pointed the tool right at the location where the TPMS sensors were located and it calibrated.

You point it right at the location of the tpms sensor.

The calibration tool was pointed at the valve stem, 180 drgrees, 90 and 270 degrees. Nothing!!! About a dozen times. The kids got sick of hearing the horn!!!!

When I put the original tires back on, 1 min to cal all of them at the valve stems. Worked great!!

Drove the car about 5 mi with the new tires to see if the sensors would wake up..nothing.

Have to call them Mon and see what to do now.

New sensors, bands and re balance is a PITA!!! And more $$$

Wondering if the sensors are in there!!!

Sounds like bad sensors. I'd give them a call...

are you sure the sensors are actually in there? It would be kind of a pain to do, but I guess you could relieve pressure and push the bead down to peek in there. If you don't see a band or sensor mount 180 out from the valve stem, they may have given you 3 takeoffs from an 05-06.

Yeah, I called them and they sent some new sensors but they are out of bands!!! I guess I'll wait and hope it doesn't snow anytime soon.
