I know that they killed the 07 Lightning, has any one heard anything about a Lightning in 08/09? Just curious cause a guy I met this week said there will be one.

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question....................thanks in advance for any info.

You are in the right place. No one knows for sure about L. SVT originally said they were postponing the L to concentrate on the Cobra. More recently they announced they would be back bigger than ever (I think that was the Autoweek article. you can find it on this site). I would think this would imply an L in the future, but, who knows.

SVT has stated they aren't abandoning the high-po truck market. They intend to beat all comers sometime in the future, though they didn't say it would necessary be an F-150 Lightning.

I believe one of those press releases/articles a while back made mention that SVT was waiting for the next new incarnation of the F150 platform. My take on what was said is that they have come to the realization that they can't squeeze much more out of the truck as it stands now because of basic design limitations. Apparently, they feel that future Lightning owners would be better served waiting for the new technology so that SVT has something new to work with.

Also, keep in mind the comments made about how SVT is now in a position that allows them to have imput into future design changes or upgrades as opposed to the old way of getting the vehicles "as is" after the fact.

So to answer your question, I would say that when you see the next major overhaul of the F150 you will see a Lightning follow soon after.

Cool thanks for the info.

I will be in the market for an SVT product in around 08/09, saving pennies now. Wife and I won't finance cars - so I have to save for awhile to get stuff. It was worth it though, my 05 GT is an awesome ride and sometimes I drive it just to be driving it. Guess I'll just have to wait to see what Ford offers when the time rolls around.

I agree with putawaywet.

Although, the reason they would wait is not because of power. It's because of the body style, I had heard somewhere that they couldn't make enough power to counteract the added weight of the new body style (make a good power:weight ratio), so they are going to figure out something else. I imagine they'll wait until the next update.

I gotta imagine they are going to come up with something similiar to the SRT-10 from Dodge. I know the lightning was real quick and all, but I would much rather have the Dodge, something about the 10 cylinders makes me wet.

I thought I had seen this somewhere. SVTs website, about half way down next to the L.

Most Recent Update From SVT (not that new)

Are you referring to the "Lightning Bolt"?
