Supercharging

Has anyone supercharged their GT? I didn't see any threads here . . . . . . .I got a quote from a local shop ($4700 parts + $2880 labor) . . . . . A little pricey . . . . .At that price I could (sell my 05 GT (38K miles) and buy an 03 Terminator. What do you guys think???

Actually I saw the install of these superchargers on Youtube. . . . .it doesn't look that difficult (if I get in a bind I could always get a flat bead to take the car to the shop.

Average install at a good shop is under $1,000, so I would definitely shop around. What type/brand of supercharger??

Many have installed their own (including myself) as it is not that difficult. It only takes basic tools/mechanic knowledge, some patience, a long weekend, and the results are very satisfying knowing you installed it yourself

Lots of people & in Mustang Chat follow POTR Taco Bill he had a problem then got it right for one example.
But I had a thought today that I'd like to buy a creat engine for a 2011 5.0 412 Hp Mustang and go that rought maybe more cost effective.

Thank you for the $1K target installation number . . . . . The shop quoted a Kenne Bell kit and a Paxton kit (both ~$4700 w/o intercooler)

Look into the Roush TVS..

Roush TVS with Magnaflow Catback and O/R X Pipe. No other mods to effect the numbers. Boost level is labelled as MAP on each graph.

I wouldn't buy a non-IC supercharger.. I went that route and it was nothing but headaches and let downs. I've sense upgraded to the HO (IC) kit and couldn't be happier!

You can always pulley down the Inter cooled kits to the HP level you want.

*I also installed mine over a weekend. It's not that hard and like Doogie said, it just takes time and alittle bit of knowledge.

+1 on avoiding a non-intercooled SC!

I would assume that higher install price could be associated with the Kenne Bell unit as they do require a lot more modification and time to install. You could probably spend the same amount as that quote and have an intercooled Roush, Edelbrock or Whipple installed... or just do it yourself and save even more

And there are some great deals available right now if you have the cash including this E-force at CJ Ponyparts for $4,954 plus shipping... which is $800 less than I paid

I have a Saleen Stage 2 from Brenspeed, install was 695 system runs great, making 425RWHP at about 7.5-8 LBS of boost. I like the Saleen becasue it almost looks factory installed.

Given the fact you seem satisfied with the '01 Bullitt and you would be willing to part with the '05 GT I would seriously consider a GT500. If so, then you would have the performance as well as the rest of the upgrades that come with it. Keep in mind putting money on a five year old car will bring little or no return if you decide to get rid of it down the line.

I like the unit Edelbrock . . . . .I especially like the fact you don't have to drill into the oil pan! Doogie, did you upgrade the fuel pump with the super charger?

With all Screw or Roots style blowers (Eaton, Whipple, KB, Roush, Saleen, Edlelbrock, etc) you don't have to drill and tap the oil pan. It's just with Turbo's and some Centri's you have to tap the pan.

Not yet as I am running the base kit, which really does not need it "yet"... but I have GT500 set-up in the garage and plan to add that along with a Bullitt CAI this winter.

Aside from some connector repinning, the install was a piece of cake. My only help was lowering the manifold into place and I still managed to complete it in ~13 hours.

I have the Vortech V2 centrifugal supercharger on my 07 GT automatic. Non-intercooled. $3700 for the complete kit + $899 for installation. Love the blower even though it's not intercooled. Dropped my 0-100 mph time 4 full seconds from stock (9.9 seconds now vs high 13's stock).

Even though I had it installed professionally, I've since removed it and reinstalled it myself (had a bearing failure) and it was quite simple to do. So in retrospect, I should have installed it myself in the first place and saved the $899 labor I paid.

Yeah if you wanted to go non IC get the vortech kit from brenspeed, it's a good price and worth it for there tuning and above and beyond customer service.

http://www.brenspeed.com/v3vortech.html

There is also a paxton kit, same price, guess what, same thing!

I too still have the stock pump, as the stage 2 kit does fine with it at only 7-8 lbs boost. I'm making pretty good power for the stage 2. I'm guessing it's from the upgraded extreme intake and my free-'er' flowing exhaust.

Very common for goals and needs to change over time. Plan for at least a little growth (get the intercooler). Enjoy.....

I too was wanting a S/C for my 05, I picked the Edelbrock unit as well, I'm right at 400 at the rear wheels. What I liked about the edelbrock unit was the ease of install, I too did mine in my garage in a weekend as well. Also its easly upgradable to more HP, I think the highest HP rating I saw was just under 700 HP, with a built motor, and smaller pulley. Also I will have to say, and I think Doogie will agree, but working with Edelbrock's C/S is TOP NOTCH!!!!!

I'm still surprised at the power I'm making on the stage 2, 425RWHP is what a lot of people get from the Stage 3, it could be the extreme intake with the Saleen maf combined with the better flowing exhaust, but for an auto that's pretty good, looking at about 510 at the crank. Maybe it was just a good day for the dyno, cool and dry

I never drove a centri so I don't know what they are like, but I have driven a big block (Chevy 454 bored out to a 498) and it's a similar feel when you hammer it.

My previous car was SCed too, a Grand prix GTP, but this is a whole 'nother level!

I guess what we are all saying is DO IT! You'll love it!
