So I am waiting for my Xmas bonus to use as a downpayment for one of them fangled mustang GTs but my folks want to get me a super remote control for this new car of mine. are there any recommendations out there for something with a large range an LCD, all the cool things that a keychain should have?

Not sure why the folks would care about a remote starter for your car...

I wouldn't mind a remote start... Non-heated leather seats would add to that, especially in the winter months(where it's cold, anyway). Only problem is it's a pain to use on manual trannys.

A remote starter although fun is not a nessesity. My dad just thought it would be a nice addition to a brand new car for those cold winter mornings, and since its a gift might as well go crazy with the LCD etc.

Check out crutchfield.com or cartoys.com...if you don't have a Car Toys store close, you can at least see what the high-end stuff is.

I don't think I've ever seen a remote started with a manual trans. And unless you don't know how to drive a stick an automatic on the 05 just seems, well....sacreligious :headbang:

well it seems that although not against the law it is not recommended by most producers of the remote starters to install on a manual. And I am not sacrificing the manual for a remote starter. So in that case whats a cool toy to ask for for this thing? I dont want stripes or diff rims ( i like the bullits), but i sure as heck like gadgets.

i wouldnt get a remote starter.... for one- i dont want to see any mustangs crashing through fences or houses from being in gear- and second- alot of people i talk to about remote starters say that its not good for the engine over time.... i would take a little bit more care of my car and just go ahead and start it like normal.......

No, it is not against the law. However it is impossible for a remote start to push in the clutch, so that would require a mod of that part of the car. That is illegal, because it is a federal safety standard that you need to have a safety on the clutch, so that it needs to be depressed for the car to start.

I think (on a stick) the car requires the clutch to be engaged in order to start the car anyway. You would need to be able to disable that.

Remote starters are perfectly fine for your engine. They will not do anymore damage than turning the key. Thats a wives tale. I installed a remote start myself (pretty easily) on a nissan sentra (automatic) and it worked fine. great for cold winter mornings.

Do not get one for a stick. Forget about houses and fences, you could hurt someone.

It can be done. No it is not legal. You wont find any repuatable shop install it on a car with a 5 speed. If they do, they won't give you a receipt. Anyway, there is one cable has to be cut to do it and it will override the clutch. Either way the car has to be in neutral for it to start. It would be nice to have but don't do it on a hill!!

If its to warm up during the cold, I think the money would be better spent on a heated seat/seats.

We put remote start in cars all the time at the dealer. We can do them for autos, not for manuals. Most shops will not do them for manuals, but will install the clutch switch override and leave one wire unattatched thats needed to make it work [wink wink].

Really? Where can that be done? And what does that do to your leather seats?

It doesnt hurt anything. Most of the better custom auto electronic shops can do them.
