Summit Racing K&N Filters?

Has anyone bought a Summit K&N Filter (no, not a K&N filter purchased from Summit Racing, but a Summit Racing K&N filter)? Does K&N's lifetime warranty apply? It's a few bucks cheaper than the K&N K&N filter.

I think you got the terminology wrong. "Summit" IS "Summit Racing" and there is only one K&N filter listed for this application. I have it. There is no such thing as a "racing K&N" filter.

I did not get the terminology wrong

There is a Summit / Summit Racing K&N filter SUM-33-2298, and a K&N filter KNN-33-2298 both available from Summit Racing. Has anyone bought/used the SUM-33-2298 filter? Is it the same as the KNN-33-2298 filter? Does anyone know if K&N still honors the warranty on the SUM-33-2298 filter that is made by K&N? There is a $7 price difference between the two filters (SUM-33-2298 and KNN-33-2298).

looks like a K&N to me. Summit can call it what they want but that is a K&N so I would assume the warrenty would apply. But give summit a call they are good people to work with.

Good idea. I called them and they said it only has a 90 day warranty (hence why it is cheaper) but it is made by K&N. I sent an email to K&N but I haven't heard anything back from them.

So far the cheapest price I have seen for the K&N panel filter is $35 shipped.

Not to get off the subject, but what about the regular air filter? Does anyone know where you can get a good price on it? I went to Pep Boys yesterday and they wanted $45. This seems like a ridiculous price for something that requires no R&D, paper, rubber and some reinforcements? I thought stock filters were supposed to be in the $10 range.

It's $25 at Rockauto: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog.php
if I recall correctly the paper filter is FA-1773.

K&N states that the Summit Racing K&N filters (that begin with SUM-###) do carry their 10-year/million mile warranty. I apologize if I confused anyone. I thought they had a lifetime warranty.

Thanks, that $25 is cheaper than I've found elsewhere. Do you think the K&N is worth more for those who haven't modded the engine? (It looked like it fit in the stock filter box)

The 5.0 Mustang magazine test showed the K&N panel filter added 4 hp and 4 ft-lb over the stock airbox + SCT tune. I'd say it is realistically worth 0-4 hp since it will become more restrictive as dirt builds up. I am interested in doing some more testing with a K&N panel filter in my 03 Marauder airbox on the Vic before I buy one for the Stang.

Yes, that filter is for stock airbox applications. If you have a Cold Air Intake, you will need a different filter...but the filter would have already come with the CAI anyway.
