Steering wheel issues

Nothing major, but it seems like the silver portions of the steering wheel don't take much to ding up...a couple weeks ago I noticed that I had a cut in the plastic on the right hand side and then I was a moron and wacked the lower spoke with the seatbelt! Now I have a mark in the plastic from it. Has anyone else noticed that the plastic doesnt seem to stand up that well? How much for a replacement OEM steering wheel?

I didn't realize that the silver spokes on the steering wheel are plastic. I know they scratch easy, but I thought they were aluminum. I've got one faint scratch that nobody else would probably ever see from when I barely brushed my key against it by accident.

New IUP wheel runs in the $160-$170 range. The silver spoke covers can be purchased as separate pieces, no idea of the price. Check with KC.

They come off real easy. They're just a pressure fit. Lift on the wheel edge and then slip off.

Where can we buy the IUP spoke covers separately? I doubt Ford will sell them separately from the wheel, but if they do, what are the part #s?

You can't add the spokes to a non-IUP wheel

the leather and the plastic on my wheel seems to be getting worn rather quickly.

Yes, you can replace the aluminum inserts on the IUP wheel. They are around $11 each from your dealer. I have an extra set ready for when I have to replace mine.

2k5GTC: what are the part #s for the aluminum inserts? Can they be retrofitted on the non-IUP wheel?

Off the top of my head I don't believe the IUP inserts will fit a non-IUP steering wheel. The inserts have some attachment clip like thingies on the underside of em. Ask your parts man to be sure.

Grant just came out with a modified version of the stock steering wheel. I'm not crazy about it, but others make like it. There is a write-up in the 5.0 Mustangs magazine I just received in the mail.

Could you post a pic????

Why does 5.0 have all the new pics, and my brand new MM&FF still have ads from a year ago

Seems like 5.0 is the better mag to see new items.

OK, back on topic.

I'm a little partial to the GT500 steering wheel. Technically not "aftermarket", but still looks good, especially if you can match the red stitching with something else on your car.
