After seeing Charlie's spoiler delete, I've decided that they look better without.

Which do you think looks better? And what advantages or disadvantages would each one bring?

I was a younger guy in the 70's and all the hot cars had spoilers. Many front and rear. I had a 73 and 78 mach and they both had front and back. Since this car to me is retro looks I'm getting the rear spoiler, just to continue the look. Many in my age group would most likely remember those days. We used to take the mustangs and jack up the rear end (air shocks) put thinner tires up front and 10" wide tires in the rear and add hooker headers and cherry bomb mufflers. Made for straight runs not oval driving. That was popular way back. The actual spoiler design is suppose to keep the rear end down on the road but at our speeds it really is just for looks. Sorry about the long post but I thought some of the younger guys may appreciate "the muscle car days". B)

If it were mine, I would wait until a ducktail comes out. The aftermarket (or even Ford) is bound to make one, and IMHO, they look MUCH better. Then, you won't have the extra holes to fill to switch spoilers.

Just a thought.

I too love the Mustang much more without the spoiler

The only advantage we get here is choice, if you don't like the spoiler, you can have it without, and it seems quite a few people have gone that route.

Being Canadian, I don't have the option, but I surely will de-spoiler my car within days of picking it up.

I don't mind it.

It is actually way smaller than I thought it would be.
Not the huge Sn95 spoiler...it is infact very tiny
I'll keep it, unless something else looks more apealing (ducktails baby)

I ordered mine w/o because IMHO it takes away from the clean lines of the car. It is cosmetic only. Finally, at wax time it is a pain!

I'm not knocking those who like it

A spoiler is used to cause downforce at higher speeds. For instance, a porsche 911 turbo has a spoiler, but only comes out of hiding when needed, at very high speeds that is. A spoiler has no Mechanical purpose at low speeds other than looks. At higher sppeds though, it creates downforce, like an upside down airplane wing, instead of pushing up, it pushes down, making the handling better at high speeds. IMO, a ducktail and/or spoiler look great. Got to love the good old daytonas, lol, now that was a wing.

Although that black GT with the bullit wheels looks REALLY good compared to the bottom, IMO

Let's face it folks, this car would look good with a xmas wreath hangin on the grill and a bad case of acne. We're slicing hairs on this subject. The car looks great with or without. It's a toss up for me.

So performance wise it doesn't matter whether you have a spoiler option or not?

If it does matter, when and how? (i.e. at what speeds?)

in the mustangs case, its simply for looks.

I did a poll on this subject, actually, spoiler or ducktail, way back in February, and the ducktail (if Ford offered one, there are some great photoshops of ducktails on the 05) won by an overwhelming margin.

Personally, I'm going with the spoiler delete. Every other car on the planet nowdays has a spoiler - it's no longer unique.

Once you hit something like 180 miles perhour, thats around the area, downforce plays a big role. Frig, the enzo, by ferrari, had the entire body built for downforce. But as said, it doesnt really affect our stockers.

I am very split on this. On the one hand, I prefer the spoiler look overall, but on the other, the back end of these cars (since '94) has risen in back so that the spoiler is now in the way of the rear view.

Anyone else notice the triangluar shape the belt lines have gotten to in cars today? I remember when they proutdly said the new SN95's convertible top would fit in the body. Well, duh, the body was 3 inches higher by the time it got to the top well, of course it'd fit!

That's probably the ONLY problem I have with the new 05's: I like big butts, but I can not lie, that rear end is way to high. When that 'Stang rolls in to the big drag race and that huge butt in my face I am shunned. Wanna bite my own tongue, 'cause I know that that butt is stuck. Beef in the sheet metal's rear end! I'm hooked but I can't stop starin', oh baby I wanna get with ya, and take your picta. Them home boys tried to warn me but that butt you got is way too beefy. Ooh, flanks of smooth skin, you're better lookin' than a Benz! Yah, use me, use me, 'cause I ain't that average groupie!...

uh...

um...

... Sorry, lost my mind for a moment...

...Erm, anyway, while I like the spoiler, I may remove it for visibility's sake. I will have to drive one with to see for sure... Maybe it'll be ok.

The spoiler is all about looks on this car and for me, I like the look. I have always liked spoilers. Not on every car but I think for me a spoiler has a certain appeal. I am getting mine with a spoiler and I am very excited!!!!!

Heck, the spoiler is much more at home on this car than on some other cars...anyone remember the little spoiler they put on the Taurus a few years back?
