i ride my 2005 every day on the german autobahn and have problems with the hood. it vibrates at speeds over 95 mph. At topspeed (150 mph) its like a papersheet.

And is the V8 built for permanent high rpm's?

Can somebody help me?

The rest of the car is realy high quality - better than my dad's BMW 1999 3series. The material is lil ceaper, but the craftmanship is better. (and yesterday, my pony was faster than a Mercedes SL 55 AMG from 0 to 100 mph) .

Yeah that happens to me too, even though I don't get many opportunities to do 90mph!

The problem is that the hood is very lightweight...some people have reported being able to adjust the rubber stops where the hood latches into. Mine does it too.

 

A problem that I heard the Grand Am mustang racing teams faced was that the hood produced lift at high speeds, thus trying to lift the fron end off the ground. I believe they modified the hood to allow air to leave the engine bay through the hood so it wouldn't produce lift.

 

I've heard of similar issues with the hood, you might want to search the forums about that. I agree with you on the craftsmanship. Actually I was suprised when I saw a sticker that said the engiens are german made. That made me feel even better about buying a Mustang GT. You probably need a modified hood to fix the issue.

 

When was your car built. Mine was built on May 9th and I just had it up to about 130 racing a 05 AMG CL55 with no problems. I had him until about 120 and he just walked away on me.

 

I could be wrong, but I thought the V6 was made in Germany, and the V8's made at plants in Canada and the USA.

 

I don't know the exact build date. The car was in canada before we imported it in february. I think later fall 2004

 

Where did you see a sticker that said the engines are German made? The only Ford I have ever known to have a German engine is the Current Gen (well at least until this year, they just got replaced with Jaguar engines) Range Rover, and that is because BMW designed the car before Ford bought the company.

Last I heard the Mustang and it's parts/assembly are a mix of America/Mexico/Canada.

I was pretty sure the colonge V6's that were made in Germany were of the smaller displacement and only intended for sale in Europe.

I thought the 3.8 and 4.0 were made here, and sold here (although the new LR3 will have the 4.0 as an option starting next year).

 

There are several older posts about the hood shake problem. Do a search.

If you look carefully at the window sticker of a V6 model, you will note it says the cars are 65% American made and the engines are made in Germany. I think they also say the transmissions are made in Mexico.

Although I will point out, there is a difference between being built in Germany, and being built by a German company.

That being said, the 4.0 in my Explorer is bulletproof.

 

Just try and add hood struts and then hood pins. I have both and don't have any issues!

As to the hood problem, I've had my car above 90 a few times and have not noticed any hood shake. My car was built in mid May for reference.

 

My car was built on 4/20, and I had it up past 100 multiple times on a recent road trip, and noticed no hood shake. Had it up around 125-130 at times.

Good to go. They definitely fixed the problem by the time they made my car.

 

No shake here either... as far as the hood is concerned... I have been up to 110 a few times, 90 fairly regularly... no problems... except, (once again) that creeping smile....

 

Yeah right! With the way people drive in this country? People would be getting killed left and right. Nice suggestion, but NO! From what I hear people in Germany are better drivers cuz they're actually careful when they drive.

 

You are exactly right. In Germany, you don't have some donkey named jack in an explorer driving on bad tires, with a cell phone in one hand and a doughnut in the other. Also, from the people I have talked to from there, their lane disipline is much better than it is here.

 

Well, maybe the Germans are more careful because there is an Autobahn? If there's ever a place you learn to check your rear-view mirrors constantly, that's where... nothing like going 80 mph, looking back before switching to the left lane, nothing there, slide out and WHAM you have a Merc slamming its brakes in your rear flipping its beamlights like crazy. Iiip.
