Speedometer not on zero
#1
The speedometer on my '06 doesn't rest at 0 MPH when it is stopped. It looks like it's reading about 2 -2 1/2 MPH when stopped. Does anyone else have a similar problem? or is this normal? I have included some pictures, one close up of the speedometer and one shot from the drivers perspective so that you can see that it is not just a matter of viewing angle but the needle is definitely off the zero mark.

My '05 GT speedo says the same thing. In fact, it's not accurate at all while driving. When I'm on cruise at 75 according to the speedo, the computer says the average speed is 69. I'm wondering if it can be calibrated or if it's a warranty issue.

I use a cheap GPS driving on a straight highway with cruise to check speedo cal. Then I know exactly how close I am to reality.

I had the same problem. Check this thread for more info.
Basically my needle was about 4mph above zero when off or at idle. My AVIC-D1 would show that same 4mph lower than what the speedo read. I also verified that cruising with another car at 60mph. To fix it, just remove the gauge cluster, pull the speedo needle out, put it back in lightly until you get it right, then put the cluster back in.
The needle doesn't have any teeth on it so you can actually put it back in at any location you want. I ended up with mine right at the lower line of the zero to give me a perfect 60mph reading. I recommend when reseating the needle that you do so lightly, then plug in and turn the ignition on to see where it ends up, then you can twist it at the stop point and do the same procedure again until you get it right. Then you should probably try and verify your 60mph reading is good so you don't get any tickets.

Thanks for the info Stephen. That's what I needed to know. Since you performed the fix yourself, I was wondering if you took it to the dealer and they wouldn't fix it? I'm considering asking the service department to check it out the next time I take it in.

I took it to the dealer just to ask them about it. They said it was not a known issue and they would have to take apart the dash. So I decided to do it myself because I don't like leaving the car at the dealer for a long time for something so trivial. It was very easy to do.
That dash part in front of the gauges just pulls right off, it's clipped on. You can get the PDF in the Issues sticky. Then there are 4 bolts holding the cluster in and a single connector for the wires on the back. The clear plastic pops off (be careful not to scratch it). Then you can remove the needle but that was the hardest part. Mine was really really on there and I thought I might break it but I made a little jig with some paper clips to get under the needle and help to slowly remove it. Reseating the needle was trial and error until I had it right but I could use my AVIC-D1 to tell me the speed and match that with the needle. You may also be able to use the message center computer for average speed if you set to 60mph cruise and reset it it should read 60 avg as well.

Taking it to your dealer will prob do you no good. I tried 2 different dealers for mine. Both told me the same thing: Unless it is off by 6mph (10kph) ford woudln't pay to do it, and I would have to shell it out of my own pocket.
Now, I just go by the digital reading on the message centre.
