Speed control (if equipped):
Illuminates when the speed control
is engaged. Turns off when the
speed control system is disengaged.

It's just the cruise control. It's operated by the five buttons on the steering wheel to set the vehicle to a certain speed and hold it there to the best of the computer's ability. Mainly for long highway drives.

The illumination is present in other Ford vehicles. My truck has a small green light on the dash board that illuminates whenever cruise control is activated.

My wife's Alero has an illuminated "CRUISE" when the cruise control is on. Freakin' idiot light that doesn't dim and its a royal pain at night....burns my retinas out.

If I take my foot off the accelerator and my car is still going at speed, the cruise control is ON. I don't need a dang indicator for every car function...

*sigh*

my wifes car has one of dem lights too. but even when you disengage the cruise it will stay on. you have to actually deactivate it to get it to go away. i've never hard a car w/ cruise in it, so it'll be a switch to have an opportunity to use it.

could help to avoid those pesky speeding tickets.

Yeah, until you start playing with the "+" and "-" buttons. Those are very fun.

Exclamation

and remmeber... You might not want to use the cruise control for the first few hundred miles. -I remember reading this in a few of other car manuals. During the break in period, you'll need to drive at varying RPMs.
