Driving at night last night, had my dash lights set at blue. I needed gas but decided it could wait. I looked at my gas gauge and noticed it was red, but all the others were blue as they should be. Was hard to focus on it due to the 3D effect it was giving off (you know, the old red and blue 3D glasses). Anyways, I passed it off as the car telling me I need gas, but a few minutes later it switched back to blue.

Any ideas on how My Color works?

Mine does the same when I need gas. If you read the manual, it is a feature to help draw your attention. The other small guages do it too. I think what happened was your guage was moving slightly between the point that it turns red or stays normal color so that is why it changed. Probably a hill or something. When it turned red, it should have made a loud beep also and the info center should have read 50 or 40 miles to empty. I can't remember which is the trigger.

Yeah, i've had a low tank..but never THAT low to a point where the gauge turns red on me... yet...
Don't plan on it either.

But yes all 4 gauges in the middle will hit a red colour if they fall into the danger area.

And if your gauges are set to red...I can't remember if they turn a different colour, or just stay red and the message center warns you like normal.
