Hah nice I'm always impressed when I see photos where totally different cars are assembled on the same line, like this V6 and the Mazda 6 behind it. The only thing I don't understand is those sheets hanging off the bottom side of the hood... what are they for? I believe the entire system works like everywhere else - every car carries a computer that transmits assembly information wirelessly. After all, the parts necessary have to be delivered just-in-time and in the right order to the assembly line, where they are needed. The workers don't have the time to "collect" the parts they need for their working step. Or am I wrong?
Yes, indeed, you are incorrect. Those sheets are called broadcast sheets, and they display build information. They are used all over the plant. The car gets a new one in various different spots throughout the plant. Some parts are delivered in the right order, but sometimes a station will hold a couple different boxes of parts, and the part is picked, per the broadcast sheet, and put on as the car rolls by. Hope this answers your question....

The plant has excellent ergonomics designed in for the assembly line staff. The platforms that hold the cars move up and down according to the height of person at various stations along the way. According to one of the Mustang engineers, their heights are pre-programmed so the platforms move automatically to the correct position, depending on who is in line next to perform work.

I'd love to hear from AAI_T&F and any other AAI forum posters on details like this. It sounds like a great step forward on ensuring higher quality and reducing injuries.
