Socal Ford Innovation Drive-Who's going?
#4
I will be there at the 9:30 time slot. I do hope that the time slots matter. I picked up the first one, so I don't have to wait in line for too long.
Any idea if we can drive all the cars they have there? offcourse excepting the GT.
Would love to drive both GT and V6 to feel the difference, don't care about the automatic though.

If I would have known about the event earlier (I got an e-mail invitation last Saturday the 28th) I would have signed up.
When I called Monday they told me the event was closed to new registrations.
I'm going to drive to Irwindale right from work (I get off at 3:30) and hope that I can at least look at the Mustangs. I'd love to drive them, but I'll be happy to just check them out.

I'll have my digital camera going that day.

Take tons of pics of every angle you can imagine with a nice steady hand, and one of under to see wether or not the production cars will have welded or clamped mufflers.
For video It'd be cool if some of you had a 3rd person to show your test drive in car. Out of car takeoffs, burnouts, and exhaust notes are always good. Turn Traction off and see how hard you can make it squeal its life out to 2nd and maybe 3rd gear.
Have fun everyone.

As many of you know I was unable to sign up for the Ford Innovation Drive in Irwindale, but I decided to take my chances and just show up and try and get in to look at the new Mustang since I didn't think they would let me drive since I didn't have an appointment.
I got to the event about 4:15 and walked up to the registration area to see if I could get in to look at the cars and I was surprised when the said I could sign up in person and show them my driver license and I would be allowed to drive.
Before I went to the area where the test drives were held I went over and looked at the 6cyl Mustang on display, then I went to the drive area expecting to find a long line or people waiting to drive the Mustang.
I was surprised to find three or foue people in front of me, and all of them wanted to drive the automatic GT...even though they have several Mustangs with the manual transmissions (GT and 6cyl) available.
Like most of the other people in line I wanted to drive an automatic GT, so I had to wait around 10 to 15 minutes before I got behind the wheel.
The 05 Mustang GT seems to have more interior room then the current models, all the controls appear to be closer to the driver, and it looks alot better then the current models.
The car had great pickup, the transmission shifted smoothly and the car handled great.

was there a limit on how many times you can get back in line. Like to drive a V6 then a GT for comparison?

I don't know if you would be able to get back in line to drive the other models, or if you were only allowed to drive one car in that area.
When I signed up at the event they gave me a card to where around my neck that listed the cars available to drive (Mustang was listed once).
Before you got behind the wheel an employee from the area punched the card to show which car you drove.
I suppose if they had cars waiting (V-6 and GT w/ the manual transmission) and nobody wanted to drive them you might be able to drive them, or if the area was slow at the time you were there.
Maybe other people that attended the event can comment on this question.
