Priority Numbers are set by the dealer to control their own order bank. They are internal to the dealer and have no effect on other dealers.
It can be any number between 10 and 80, with 10 being highest priority.
If no priority number is assigned at the time the order is submitted, sold orders will default to 40 and stock orders to 80. 99 blocks the order from being selected.
Orders are assigned serial numbers by Ford by lining up allocation with priority numbers. If there are option restrictions (like the IUP) then the next in priority without the option will be selected.
Whether it is 10 or 30 or 40 does not matter, if it has the highest priority then it will be the first order chosen. If all orders have the same priority, then the oldest order is selected.
Larger dealers usually get more allocation, but frequently have more sold orders to cover, so you may or may not get one quicker.
I am not sure about U.S., but in Canada we are free to order whatever mix of GT vs V6 that we want. The only restrictions are on the IUP option and (up until now) manual V6.

Not sure what the rules are about posting links to other forums so if I mess up forgive me. I found this page very informative about explaining the who order process. Maybe we could get permission from the author and make it a FAQ??

The question to ask is how many orders do they have to cover before yours, and what is their current allocation, as well as their IUP allocation if applicable.
They should have just received this from Ford. It covers vehicles serialized for the next four weeks to be built during February. Beyond this timing is just educated guessing.
Yes they control their own priority numbers and can change them, but don't get caught up with the numbers - 40 may be the highest priority in their order bank. Ask how many are ahead of your order.

Actually no. Priority 99 is only for stock orders.
A retail order (including A or Z Plan) must be between 10 to 40.
A fleet order (including Red Carpet Lease) can be postponed by having a deferred build priority (e.g. PF4 is requesting build for 6th month-F, 4th week-4).
In the end, what you want to know is how many orders are ahead of yours.

Salesman called me today. He said "you were right about the priority#" ( the lower the better), and said that they did have good allocation for my order, But also said there is a problem with getting the IUP. It might take longer to get. I told him I wanted it & I'd wait. I hope it works out I really want the IUP.
