Side Air bags w/ Car Seat in back?
#1
Hey guys, I'm getting ready to order an '06 but just had one thought. I know the side airbags are intented to protect the front seat passangers, but should I have any concerns with getthing the side airbags if I will occasionally have a rear-facing child seat in back? I just didn't know how much area they cover and if there's any chance they may hit. I've looked at all the "child seat" and "airbag" discussions, but didn't see any discussion of it.
My assumption is that it won't be an issue but just thought I'd double check with the experts )
Worst case senario.... I order the airbags but don't use this car with the baby until he's at least a year old and facing forward.
thanks!

They inflate to the side and toward the front. IMO, no worries with a rear-facing child seat in the rear. At worst, they'd inflate and nudge the child seat, pushing it toward the center of the car.
The issue with air bags and the rear-facing child seat is when people put the seats in front and the air bag inflates. This tends to cause the child seat to flip up to the seat back and could injure (or worse) the child.
