The Shelby GT-H is not a Ford SE. Any aftermarket company or Ford dealer can do whatever they want to create a so called "SE".

As far as Ford goes.

2001 Bullitt SE - OK
2003-2004 Mach 1 - GREAT! ! !
2006 Shelby GT-H zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz just a regular GT with some FRPP kits and a CS-6 hood.
2007 GT/CS - Piece of garbage as bad as the 1970s Mustang II Cobra, Stallion, etc.
2007 PJ / Saleen - GREAT !!! except the price and that Saleen had to do it because Ford is wasting their time with garbage like the GT/CS.
[/b][/quote]

I believe that weve had enough retro SE's the Mach 1, Bullitt, ang GT 500 were enough

Depending on your definition of "SE". it would be possible to add the following "cosmetic upgrade" editions - 1999 35th Anniversary Edition, 2000 Spring Feature Edition, 2003 Centennial Edition, and 2004 40th Anniversary Edition.

The performance enhancements for the Bullitt and Mach have set expecations up high. I am bumming about Saleen/PJ edition because it is the closest to what those Ford-produced cars offered but the price is not for a larger market.

These days, the retiring rich seem to be the target market for what we think of as "special editions". I am still kind of in shock that a GT costs between $26-$32K. That is the entry-level V8!?

It is hard to be sick of SEs when Ford doesn't even have one in the market yet. But if the reference is to tuners' so called "SEs" then there might be a point to the topic.

The more SEs the better! It keeps the buzz alive about the Mustang. It also floods the market with more cool parts for mods. All the different versions of the Stang have kept it alive all these years. It makes it possible for people to have something more unique than the typical V6 or GT off the lot.

I agree with 1 BULLIT there is a difference from a SE from FORD and the tuner cars which are also great. There seems to be enough room in the market for all of them.

Since this is the 2005 - 2008 Mustang section I was only considering 2005+ Mustang SEs.

The only reason why Ford, Saleen, Roush, etc. are building $50K Mustangs is because there appears to be customers who buy them. If I was in the business of building SE Mustangs why would I waste my time and effort to trying to sell 1,500 SEs to the common man @ $35K that have only a $5K profit when I could sell 500 SEs that cost $50K with a $15K profit which would make same net profit with a lot less work and risk. Isn't that the American way?

Not a good idea.

At a certain point the market becomes saturated and then collapes when no one can make a profit off them.
The result becomes no more SEs.
But then again this is the American way. Jump on a galloping horse and ride him until he drops dead.

It already is. Roush is being handsomely discounted by the largest Roush dealer in Florida. It takes a very dedicated and passionate enthusiast to pay up to twice the value of a GT for a tuner's version. This very same dealer was advertising new '04 440s coupes and verts until a few months back.

ebay is not doing that much better either.

My local Saleen dealer has a bunch of them on the lot and has been advertising them everywhere (at what I think is MSRP). The same cars seem to have been on the lot for many months. I haven't paid any attention lately, but a year ago the local Roush dealer had 04s advertised at big discounts.

We can only hope that the market for $50K+ Mustangs has already collapsed and the tuners & Ford will be forced to make $35K SEs like a Bullitt & Mach 1 for us common folk.

When it is all said and done, I agree. Long live the Stang!

That is the way in today's market unfortunately. With Ford itself in its current financial state, those development dollars have probably harder to get than before when the SN-95 special edition business model was in play. It benefited the enthusiasts to have a 2-year run of Mach 1s but financially was probably not so good for Ford since they offered rebates on them in 2004.

That leaves us with today's scenario, where the entry-level V8 moves upmarket with a price increase, putting a special edition (non-top dog Mustang) in a tough spot to justify financially. I come back to the fact that a deluxe GT coupe with no options costs close to $26,000 MSRP. That is starting to get up there, even for the common man.
