Shoulda bought the warranty

Road Hazard warranty for the tires that is.

I head out to work this morning and the "Low Tire Pressure" warning comes on. I check the tires and the left rear is about 7 psi low. Don't hear any hissing. I fill it up to about 30 psi (the others were all at 32psi)and head the 7 miles to work. The "LTP" warning is on the whole trip. Get to work and a few hours later use someone elses pressure gauge. Left rear is still down the 2 psi compared to the others, still no hissing. Head to dealer at lunch. On the inside left sidewall is a 2" long sliver of metal about the size of a toothpick. Since it's in the sidewall they can't patch it (patched tires don't retain their speed rating) so I have to replace an 18" tire with 726 miles on it because of a tiny sidewall puncture.

I bought the roadhazard warranty at $12 per tire.

I learned the hard way about buying the road hazzard, only the tire I had to replace was $280.00!

They let me purchase road hazzard for all four when I replaced the tire. Was an expensive lesson.

Chip,

Sorry to hear about that. What's the cost on a new tire? I looked on Tirerack.com the other day to see how much our BFG 18"s run and they did not have the Z rateds listed.

I got the exact original equipment tire for $164 and change. They also allowed me to purchase the warranty on all four tires today.

Ive had 2 things in my tires. 1 was a week after putting my snow tires on!!! the tint shop called to say I had a nail in my tire. Of course I bought road hazard, I sell tires for cryin out loud! Repaired by yours truly for free.

2nd was a week after installing my Eagle F1's, this one woulda been unrepairable but it went along the tread instead of in the tread and did not punture, whew! road hazard or not, gotta pay taxes and new road hazard policy for new tire.

Tirerack had the stock 18" BFG's for 61 or 69 bucks on special for a long time, it made it hard selling my takeoffs. Sold the set for 200.

Also you still retain speed rating until 2 patches in the same tire section (4 sections) or 3 patches in the tire period.

Even in the sidewall? All the info I've been able to find (online and print) indicate that sidewall punctures should never be repaired.

Just been thinking.......
The more I think about the sliver of metal and where it was located in the sidewall of the tire, I would almost bet that it's been there since I got the car. I think it might have either come from the railcar while unloading or the truck that brought it from the railyard to the dealer. The leak was obviously a very slow leak and the puncture very tiny so it may have taken that long for enough air to leak out and trigger the Low Tire Pressure sensor.

Yes, argue with the dealer about it. I get people in all the time with new cars crying about slow leaks, and even some ruined tires. I can make a call to Goodyear and usually get them at least a 50% adjustment.

When we got the our 06 pony we got the road hazard and padi $20/tire for it.. Since then we have had 2 tires replaced by them (1 nail and 1 screw near the sidewall). When we took it in for the 2nd tire they said they didn't have any tires and wanted us to drive 70 miles (round trip from the dealer to home) on the spare. I told them they sold us the road hazard, they advertise they sell tires and that we should buy from them since they sell what ford puts on the car And I said I see many 17" p zero nero tires on the lot (on new cars). They gave us a rental (free) for the night.

After we got the car back (next day).. we were at the house that evening and noticed a screw in the same tire. I looked at the tire and what they work order said and the service writer had written "right rear" for the drivers rear. Needless to say they ate the cost of another tire And roadhazard (since they changed a good tire).

We have had the car for 30k miles and have gotten 3 tires replaced on the car for $50 total (new road hazard price is $25)...

This thread must have jinxed us.. Last night we are leaving Pizza Hut and I notice car doesn't look "right". sure enough.. the right rear tire is low (< 10 psi).. I grab the 12v jumper box (w/ compressor) and fill the tire to 45psi. Sure enough.. A piece of meta is between the tread blocks....

I took the car in today and had the tire fixed (free).. And of course, while I was there.. someone bought a shelby gt500 for $20k over msrp..

My wife customized the right rear's tire design with two nails and a screw. She does that all the time.

I made some calls and the least expensive was at Tire Kingdom for $240. I wound up ordering a set of four for $412 with free shipping and a $50 rebate from Discount Tires Direct.

Now she has three spares available for her next adventure.

This thread is jinxed!!!!

happened here too (with only 245 miles on gt/cs) -- nail in side wall ... had to replace for $180 after mount & balance; bought the road-hazard certs from discount-tire for $21 <- just owning the insurance guarantees no more nails.
