Should I get it repainted or live with it???

As soon as I picked up my '08 candy apple CS I went to fill it up with gas across the street from the dealer. Then I noticed a huge ding in front of the drivers side door on the lower half of the car. It looks like someone shot it with a high powered BB gun or something.

I took it back to the dealer right away and they were very cool about it. They said they would have their dent repair guys come out and they should have no problem getting it completely out. So I brought it to the dealer yesterday to have this done.

The sales manager called me up to say it didn't turn out how he thought it would. He said to take it home for a few days and decide if I want it completely redone at the body shop. On an overcast day you would never notice it. However today it was very sunny out and I could see it plain-as-day.

So my question is would you guys risk having the panel sanded down and re-painted completely? I am afraid they will never get it to match the factory color. I also hate to see them break the factory paint job. I am really at a loss of what to do. If it were not a GT/CS I would put stripes over it, but my CS already has stripes in a different place. Any advice would be a huge help. Thanks.

Have them fix it, take it from a guy who pointed out a similar flaw before I signed the paperwork. My car just hit 39K miles, out of warranty, and I never got it painted. Trust me, you'll kick yourself forever. They can get it to match, especially by doing the whole panel. I would assume the issue with it not matching now is because they tried to just touch it up quickly. Let them take their time and do it right, I'm sure you'll be much happier.

Get them to fix it. The car is brand new and should not have a problem in matching the paint.

I would let them make the repairs. It is new and you will not to answer for everyone who asked about later.

I would let them do the whole panel... at the very least they will fade it in properly so IF there was any difference, it would not be noticable.

Get it done right, you'll regret it if you don't. Unless you don't mind imperfections, you gotta get it done so you feel comfortable. I know it would drive me nuts.

Have them paint it. It's brand new and should be perfect.

I agree with everyone. They match the paint pretty perfectly. Take it from someone who has replaced the same fender...twice from accidents. You won't even notice it.

Go ahead and get it repainted. They should be able to match the color perfectly. Candy apple is easier to match than redfire since it lacks the metal flakes.

Yeah but I've seen countless spot paint jobs that look great for the 1st year but crack or fade 2 years in. How do you know the quality of the paint job they'll do? Will it be the same quality as the factory paint?

Would the dealer be willing to pay for you to go to a professional "paintless dent removal". I've never done it but heard of it and people seem pretty happy with the results.

This is what was already done and it didn't turn out too good. The dealer said to let them know is I want to get it fixed and repainted.

Based on all your opinions and my own I think I'll have them do it. Thanks for the help in deciding guys. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Had the local dealer paint my fender on an '06 GT. Had a massive door ding, and now you can't even tell. In fact the paint looks better on the fender then the factory paint elsewhere on the car.

+1 - Being new paint, it will be easier to match now than waiting. A member in our club had his 05 with a Roush body kit get the front caved in by a deer. He shows the car and made it clear to the body shop manager the paint had to match. The shop ordered the paint like 3 times before it matched. He was told the first two test batches were ok but not for show. Make sure the shop understands your expectations

Get it fixed, like most said, it is new paint and they should be able to match it perfectly. This happened to my explorer, and they did a perfect job.

Have them paint the whole panel, it is harder to match the paint when just doing a patch job. but if they paint the whole panel it should be pretty easy to match. When trying to match the original paint it is best to paint the whole panel.lol

Get it fixed now, before the dealer changes his mind. It's new paint so it should be easy to match.

As you already signed and drove away,i would have them repaint it....however i would be ****ed and would wish i noticed before buying and thus would have wanted whole new car....(guess that option is no longer valid?)

If the guy working on it is good, they can do a spot repair and blend without having to repaint the entire panel.
