Shopping for Replacement Clutch

Hi all,

Sounds like the wifey's car's throwout bearing is going out (squeaking when pedal pressed), so I'm looking around for a new clutch (no reason to not replace everything while in there). Any recommendations? Don't need anything super trick, just a good quality clutch for a stock car. Will do Motorcraft/OE if that's the rec.

'06 GT

Thanks!

Chris

Well. After doing a little homework, it looks like the throwout bearing is not serviceable. I'm gonna have to replace the entire slave cylinder/TOB assembly. Can anyone confirm?

One point of confusion: I'm able to find a replacement clutch kit online that supposedly includes the TOB. Why would a kit include a TOB if it's not serviceable?

Exedy clutches come with a new hydraulic release bearing , which I assume is the same as a throwout bearing when it's not hydraulic ...

True. The TOB and slave cylinder are one piece. I haven't replace mine yet (76k on the original) but I'm getting close to and I've been doing some research

I just went through all this in September.

Sachs makes the slave/bearing hydraulic assembly. They pretty much are the only one (I know RAM did one for a bit) and it is the OE for many other car makers. It's a low cost part and makes no sense not doing while you are in there, so most clutch kits include it.

I have a light mod '06 and I looked to Exedy first as they are the factory clutch manufacturer for our cars. American Muscle actually has a nice series of vids on the kits. I went with the Mach 400 kit (got from Brenspeed).

So the pressure plate and the friction disk was one line item on my order. I needed a flywheel and based on my needs I wanted a lighter one, but still steel. Exedy was backordered at the time, but I found a similar one at ACT. ACTProlite Xact Lightweight SteelFlywheel which is 16lb (16lb lighter than the stock 32lb). I don't recommend this for a daily as it makes launching a bit more difficult and stop and go not so fun.

I think you can get the whole thing from Exedy direct or from a reputable vendor. I would buy a NEW stock flywheel and a slightly stronger pressure plate like a Mach 350 or Mach 400. The pedal feel is stock, but when you let fly between gears you can sense it clamps a bit quicker and more positive.

Any real questions: Part no., prices, PM me.
