Shifting at 3000-3500rpm
#1
Yesterday I filled my car up for the first time, I figured out my gas mileage and it turned out to be 15mpg I had a 50 mile drive home from the dealer (highway) and the rest was in town driving. I have been shifting at 3000-3500rpm is that ok or is it killing my gas mileage? I have always had a auto before and this is my first stick. Any tips? Thanks guys~ Kevin

My mileage is picking up a bit now (1400 miles), but stunk when I first got her home. You might try shifting earlier (2000-2200 rpm). I am in heavy traffic most of the time, so I don't expect it to ever get real good, but it is definately better with some miles on it.

Generally, the lower you shift the better, as long as you arent lugging it.
If you're just cruising around 3500 is a bit high to run a v8 every shift, I didn't even shift my 4 cyl that high up. 2200-2500 seems to be good for me mileage wise so far, very first tank and I'm getting over 20mpg.

Since you have the IUP, maybe it would be a good idea to check out the "mileage meter" in the message centre. It would probably be helpful for you to know when to shift, etc. It also shows your instantaneous mileage.

I agree on the shifting points for best gas mileage: Shift between 2200 and 2500
At stock my first couple of tanks yielded 18mpg as I put more mileage on her the gas mileage improved. I was up to 20.4mpg before my tune. I haven't been to fill her up since my tune, so I don't know what I am getting now. I will know next time I get to the pump. Who buys a v8 for gas mileage anyway

Lugging it is where your engine RPM's are too low and you are about to stall it. The car jerks forward continuously until you press the clutch in, press the gas more (which sometimes helps, sometimes not), or your car stalls.

Jeffs05GT,
What's "lugging it"?
Sorry all, I'm new.
Thanx.
