Shelby GTs in progress

Went on a tour of the Shelby factory in Las Vegas today. Pretty cool. When leaving, we saw the storage lot for the Shelby GTs as they go through the upgrade.

Yea, no cameras inside the work areas. They have a small museum tho. The tour is timed to coincide with the lunch break. The Cobra area is not very large, but they said they do 6 cars a month. The corbras are set up in stations where the cars move from panels, to suspension, to interior, etc.on dollies. They only produce rolling chassis'. Interesting that the cobras glass bodies, seats and some other components are done at Indian Springs Prison.

The GT area is much larger with maybe 10-12 lifts. The cars go thru some type of pre prep, striping, then hit the lifts where 2 man crews do all the component swaps. Each crew has to do 4 cars a day. We were told the production run in 6000.

Shelby is hiring too. If I didn't have to live in Vegas, I might think about retiring to work there!!!! Don't know if they'd have a place for an old aircraft crew chief however.

Looks like they're putting the stripes on crooked in that second pic. (higher in the back)
I'd be pretty mad if I ordered one and it came in like that.

What I love most about photos like that is the fact that 43 years later, crazy wonderful Mustang things like this are STILL happening!

Free time? I'm on temporary duty at Nellis for Red Flag. I'm getting paid to be here!

Do the black ones get Black 18" Bullitts?

Also those rows and rows of spoiler deletes make me so jealous!

All the Black cars have black bullets with the chrome rim (ETA- actually machined natural color rim area). White all have chrome bullets.

We saw some with the GT appearance package hood scoop and some had the Sat Radio antennas, so there must be some options available.

Unfortunately they aren't available with the GTAP hood scoop. They come with a 60's AC Cobra style hood scoop. Looks horrible IMO. It should have been left on the Cobra. The GTAP scoop was readily available and would have looked MUCH better.

One thing I didn't realize was all the spoiler deletes. Will they all be built that way? If so, that's one of the few good decisions made when designing the Shelby GT.

I didn't get a real good look at the scoops, so you may be right. However, it must be an option because some of the cars had them, some didn't and they were already striped.

I ordered one of each loaded with Nav, but skipped the over-the-top stripes on both... Our local guy does them gap-free.
