Shelby GT - Gas Guzzler?
Shelby GT - Gas Guzzler?
I was at a Ford dealer (Black Mountain Ford) in NC and saw a Shelby GT (not a GT500) with a gas guzzler label on it. The label said there was a $1000 tax since it was a "gas guzzler". I thought only the GT500 was considered for the tax. The GT uses the same engine as the standard GT with only a few mods, right?

Those changes calculating the window sticker are not the same ones used for determining the GGT.

My 07 GT gets 19 mpg with mixed city/highway driving (optional 3.55s w/ TR-3650) and I just broke 500 miles, so there is room for improvement as it breaks in. I use the A/C a lot, but I shift at or below 2000 RPM and rarely go above 3000 RPM.
If the GT is a gas guzzler, then my Crown Vic is a gas wh*re because it gets 13-14 mpg in the city and 15-16 mpg with mixed driving. The lowest gas mileage I have gotten was 9-10 mpg using Sunoco 94 octane gas in Troy, MI.
I guess everything in Troy, MI is expensive!!
