I had already experienced problems with the Shaker 500 CD player skipping on occassion.

Now, I have a new problem. Today, I turned the stereo on and no sound. I tried changing from CD to FM to AM. The display would not immediately to change to my selection; there was app. a 20 second delay before the settings would change.

Eventually, the stereo returned to normal operation.

Later in the evening, the sound disappeared again for app. 30 seconds before returning.

What to do?

I stopped at a Ford dealership and the service dept. said they were not aware of the problem and gave me the Ford Customer Service toll free number.

Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Well I am giving FORD 1 more try to fix mine. If that fails well time to approach FORD for some sort of credit towards a different deck. Ya I know, a far shot but hey, we didn't pay for these for nothing.

To be honest, I'm thinking you might have some luck. I did something on a much grander scale like that with my 95' Monte Carlo. A nice formally written letter explaining my situation with their P.O.S. transmission that went blooey at 45,000 miles (warranty ran out) yielded me half the cost of a transmission replacement.

Oh, and the line that you hear about Ford is aware of a problem...well they should be, this deck is NOT new. The only thing added was MP3 capability, beyond that it is the same in dash changer deck they've been using for years.

2 friends with older Cobra's have the same problems with their 6 CD in dash changer, they just keep getting Ford to get them new ones.

:bang: :bang: :bang: I am sooooo Unhappy with the shaker....

I have a new problem too.......The durned thing has started cutting off songs with about 30-45 seconds left and moving to the next one. Real Cds- not burned ones

The rewind is getting more annoying as well, and It got stuck on CD but wouldn't move or anything the other day- like it froze up.

I have a new one "on order" if that tells you...On order because everyone else with one also has a bugged up one and wants it replaced......Dadblastit, this is my first "me first" unused car since 1995! And I want it to be perfect.

According to Rizzo Ford's service dept., anyone with problems should report them to Ford Customer Service Number at 1-800-392-FORD.

I encourage everyone with stereo bugs to report them immediately.

Mine does this on occassion, works perfectly for a while, then suddenly starts cutting of the ends of songs. Random as far as which CD is involved.

Mines shut completely down a couple of times, no buttons worked, no sound, nothing at all. shutting the car off and restarting it fixed it.

Talked with a Ford sales person about if they had had alot of complaints or returns and he said he was totally unaware of any problems with them but would ask the service dept. about it.

It's obvious from all the threads and everyone having the exact same problem that the radio's are defective.

Everyone needs to call that number, I will call them tomorrow. Maybe if enough people complain, they will get a TSB out to the dealerships if they haven't already. Making the fix a little easier. Hard to show the service tech when it's not something you can make it do to demonstrate the problem.

I agree with you nynvolt. Unless they hear from everyone on this, they'll assume everything is fine. I wonder if they are already addressing some of these problems. Is there any way to contact the manufacturer of the radios directly? I hope these issues are resolved before I take delivery.

On the other hand, has any manufacturer ever recalled a line of cars to replace stereos?

Apparently at the dealer I bought from- so many of them are defective they had to hire a stereo person just to handle it.He is in 3 times a week. Before, if someone had a broke stereo they sent you up the road to Radioactive to have an aftermarket put in(I got screwed then). Every mustang they have sold has a broke shaker in it. Mine will be in sometime when its warm, but I am "in line" behind others.
My Husband is POED about it, I had mine verified as broke, and they put in to order me a new one..What can I do? 6-8 weeks. ??!! He said he would be there every day raising hades at them. I told him more flies with honey, but I am starting to change my mind
I have something like 200 CDS and I listen to every one of them, I love my cds. BUT playing all defective and embarassing me makes me unhappy.

Here is a rundown of EVERYTHING that has ever happened to mine: Compare with yours:
1)rewind-sounds like an 80s answering machine being rewound
2)inserting pauses wherever it wants
3) Freezing up-buttons won't work.
4)dead buttons(turning off and restarting fixes)
5) Cuts off ends of songs
6) Brand new cds being spit out as bad discs
7)very long "reading disc" time

Well, don't get in an uproar yet. Believe it or not, not everybody has these problem's. You might actually get a decent one

Yes, I have a golden one apparently, an occasional skip or 2, but no disc eject or other problems. Anytime it starts skipping or "rewinding" a quick power on and off straightens it out... for days.

Right now mine is no more flaky than a some of the aftermarket changers I've had

No... recalls are the realm of safety items. The most this will generate is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)

I have had a lot of the problems Eleanor mentioned. However, I haven't been into the dealer yet to report the problems I was going to wait a little longer to take it in to get the oil change at the same time. How can you prove the radio is defective? I mean sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't...

Same with the popping sound in the front of the car when you turn the wheels when you are stopped.

Oh and......
I bought a Modest Mouse CD. This morning I put it in the shaker for the first time. Its an enhanced cd......The shaker wouldn't play it......

Float on cut to the next song in the middle of it.....
The rest of them sounded like audio tape rewinding.
I got ticked and stuck Clapton back in. This is the only CD the shaker seems to ENJOY playing.

This morning, I called Ford Customer Service at 1-800-392-FORD.

Pressed Option 4 for Ford...
Pressed Option 1 for English...
Pressed Option 3 for All other issues...
(Recording said to have V.I.N.# ready)
I spoke to a female named Jackie. I explained to her the problem with the Shaker 500. She was pretty clueless and told me that her office was in Canada. I told her to lodge a formal complaint and forward the complaint to the proper division. I then received a reference number (make sure you get one and document it). She told me to contact the dealer again.

I also e-mailed Ford with the following at

https://www.customersaskford.com/KanaForm.a...te=fordVehicles

I am having recurring problems with the factory installed Shaker 500 stereo.

The function buttons do not work or are delayed on occassion. In addition, the sound does not work at times and the CD skips at times.

This appears to be a widespread problem with the Shaker stereo.

Please look into this matter and respond with your findings.

I agree. Perhaps "recall" is a strong word. When I worked as a service dispatcher for a Long Island Mercedes/BMW dealer, we used to sneak in a few "service campaigns" while a given car with outstanding recalls was being serviced. This was done under the auspices of "proactive customer service." It usually involved little fixes, upgrades or enhancements that were low in priority and never involved safety issues.

I'm just so amazed that there are so many widespread problems with the stereo. I had a 6-CD disc changer in my 2000 ZX2 and it never had issues at all!

Is the manufacturer giving any guarantee that the problems have been resolved in the replacement units or is it simply another unit pulled off the shelf? Don't suppose there's any way of knowing, is there? Has anyone seen any kind of TSBs on this?
