Is it worth putting in a Shaker 500? I am thinking that I would hook up an MP3 player like IPOD (no need for 6 CD/MP3 capability, upgrade the base model console to at least have one CD player/MP3 capability for the odd times I would not have the IPOD with me). Are the speakers on the base model good?

By the way, wondering, from the new owners of 2005 Mustang, what was the first music played?

If you do a search, you should find a couple old threads on first songs played on new Mustangs.

On your other question, I would recommend the Shaker 500. There are also a lot of threads on here about that whole debate as well.

If I was a serious enough audiophile, where I wanted/needed extra bass, I would also know I could spend $1200+ in the aftermarket MUCH better than blowing it on the upgrade to the Shaker1000. I'd stick w/ the S500.

Or if you want the best sound, order the base radio, save the $ on either Shaker, and replace EVERYthing aftermarket.

Personally, the S500 is working GREAT for me. I like some of the integrated features (light dimming, speed sensitive volume, etc). Maybe aftermarket can help you out there too?

I'm plenty happy with my Shaker 500 unit. No problems and it sounds great. Although the placement of the subs is a little questionable. Whenever I drive my leg sits right across the shaker sub and gets vibrated like there is no tomorrow. Some people noted the regular speakers in the front should be mounted in the pillar.

I will likely replace to stock speakers with something that has a little higher quality. Otherwise great system for a stock upgrade.

I'm no audiophile but I wanted the 6 CD capability. So I purchased an S500 from a TMS member and installed it myself. It works well and the sound is much better even with the stock door/rear speakers. I then sold my stock single CD unit on eBay so my net cost for the change was $82! Here's a link to a thread with the details of the install.

We replaced the speakers in our 05 with Pioneers, and kept the stock head unit S500. It sounds pretty good to me, and noone will ever try to steal a stock stereo!

I was and still am a serious "Music Head ", but just listening to myself shift this bad boy is music enough. I have probably listened to 1 hr of CD/radio tops since Feb when I picked up my car.

If you are getting leather interior, ordering the premium model, which includes leather and the shaker 500, saves money over just adding the leather to the deluxe car. This offsets some of the extra cost of the shaker 500. I think the shaker 500 is a decent stereo, but if you think you're going to replace the entire system, I'd just get the base.
