Yesterday I got into the car for the long drive to Thanksgiving Dinner. I threw an ELO Cd into Slot 5 and it spat it out..
The display read INITIALIZING.

It took like five minutes and did that twice then it began to work fine after

Anyone else had this happen?

 

Sometimes mass produced CDs are particular the 1st time they are played. I've had my 02 Ranger and my wife's 04 Maxima do the same with brand new CDs -- not all the time, but occasionally. The Shakers are particular & peculiar sometimes, but this is normal on radios other than the Shaker model -- as long as it eventually works, of course.

It wasn't the CD- it was an ELO CD I have played a million times.

It spat it out and the Shaker(and radio) Ceased to work while it displayed:
INITIALIZING across the screen.

Then it shuffled through all the Cds making a whirring noise and finally said
DONE
and worked again.

Its worked half butt since then.

 

You think that's bad, if you run your battery out by playing your shaker 1G while detailing your car, and the battery goes dead...It initializes then too, and there is no way to shut it off unless you pull the fuse. I have a portable cranker that juices the battery enough to start the car USUALLY...but when the car gets power it begins by initializing the shaker, and drains the power from my cranker and it won't turn over.

 

What ticks me is this is my SECOND shaker...

My first one sounded like the chipmunks with all its chirping.

 

Now if I am listening to a CD and turn on the radio and go back to the CD
It reads
Reading Disc
and the CD starts over.

It drives me mad, especially if all I wanna do is check traffic and then go back to my song.

Suggestions?

 

i dont want to start another Shaker thread, so i thought i would jump on yours April.

i installed the shaker head unit after i purchased the stang(if i would have known the issues with it, i would not have) this week the shaker has been resetting itself(the time, radio stations etc.) and it was not playing the cds either.
first instinct is the battery or a loose wire. but the car starts fine and the lights are good..
anyone have this problem???

 

I know you said you have played the cd a million times (perhaps its worn out ) So I assume you mean you already played it in the car. Just wondering because of that stupid "ecryption" technology SONY put on cd's has caused tons of reading issues with discs.

It was interesting for me to see your thread on this. I don't have this problem in my Mustang (have a Pioneer head unit) but I had this exact problem with the 6CD in my Explorer. I swapped the head unit once and had the same problem with the new one! So I just gave up and put an Alpine in it. Ford had no clue what was the problem, but it was not burned CDs or anything like that. Good luck to you.

 

It spits out discs when I change and then go back as BAD DISC.

It resets to Read Disc when I change to the radio for traffic.



This keeps up I am installing XM in it.


Nah- It was an ELO CD. Maybe it knew I don't like ELO and let me know it


It also especially hates Eric Clapton and AC DC.

The funny thing is I have zero problems with burned Cds.

 

The CD player has poor taste in music if it hates AC DC, Eric Clapton, and ELO. This has to be the worst factory receiver automotive history.

 

I love my music....
I HAD to have the shaker in my car.

On Shaker two and its still a POS.
I need to have it redone again, and I am worried its still crap.

They were like this is the NEW B series- B must stand for busted cause it don't work half the time.


Course in the grand scheme, this is the biggest issue I have- she runs fine.

 

mine did the "bad disc" thing to after i had the car for 3 weeks. took the dealer almost7weeks to get me a new one. shaker 500 BTW. i bought the car mid-june.
