Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid the 'Bad Disc' response from the shaker?

I get this message every so often on a disc that i had already played [always happens with MP3's that i burned].
I take the disc out and either rub it on my shirt or pants and reinsert it. Works everytime.

I have had the bad disk problem only a handful of times, usually I get the sudden skip sound. I have found that if i burn a data disk of mp3 files off my comp, then I have no skips and no bad disk messages. When I have had the bad disk message, I press the load button and the disk has alwasy read fine afterwards.

Ed,

That is what I am experiencing. The first time I insert the CD it will usually play fine, but then when I return to that cd the second or 3rd time, it will spit it out with a BAD DISC error.

I would like to avoid having to re-insert the disc everyitme.

Shut the unit off for a few seconds and then back on and see if that clears it. I've never had the bad disc error but that works on the few occasions it skips on me.

I wonder if I higher bitrate would avoid the bad disc.

Also, Nero is kind of hosed on my computer.

Is anyone using cd-burning software that is NOT Nero, and that doesnt give the Bad Disc all the time?

I found this TSB in the local thread here:

"Replace CD player with latest service level through your facing audio service center"

I wonder, what is the current service level for the Shaker 500? Maybe replacing it will remove the 'Bad Disc' error.

I've had bad disc on both MP3's and store bought CD's. I usually reload and it works fine. Pain in the you-know-what on the MP3's, especially if I was on song 50 out of 110. Only a couple of times has it read as a bad disc and spit back out. But on the 3rd try it would work.
It normally happens to me when I've started my car up, or if I've put in a disc right before turning off the car, and then started it back up a short time later.

BTW, I never had problems until I started reading the threads about people having these issues. Oh well, what am I going to do about it?

Just to chime in here.

I have a March 27 built car and I have not had the error once.
I have MP3's and standard CD's.

The only thing that the shaker has done is locked up on me kind of.
When I turned the volume up it went down and when I turned it down it went up. I powered it off and then on and it's been fine ever since.

I would take them back to the dealer and demand that they be replaced.

I would use this forum as a reference to people who don't have any problems.

Good luck all.

I've burned all of my MP3 CD's at the highest bitrate possible and record the CD's at a SLOW Speed (2X - 6X). (You don't get near as many songs on a CD, but the audio quality is much better). Use Roxio Easy CD Creator software.

I also make a point to hit the AM/FM Radio button below the CD button to change to regular radio before I turn the car off after playing CD's.

I've only had the bad disk error message 2 times in 6 - 7 months of use. I just unloaded the CD and reload it, works fine again.

I had a store bought cd that the Shaker would only read the first song then skip over the rest of the disc. Really wierd!

I'm getting this problem now. Store bought and MP3 CD. Tried the shirt thing, the power thing and I have 'B' as the last letter in the diagnostic.

Solution, keep going back to the dealer and have it replaced until they get one that works....or....get an aftermarket head unit installed.

The display to me appears to be D(5) disc 5, F1 Folder 1, and T50 track 50.
Did you try it again after you powered off the car?
Try diconnecting the battery. That might reset it. The noise you hear may be the cd changer looking for a disc.??

Good luck.

I got my Shaker replaced, works much better now. The new one did spit out a disc once so far, but hasn't happened since. Maybe it was just the disc that caused that one. The problem happened much more often before the replacement.
