shaker 500 vs. 1000

quick q. I see some Mustangs with TWO speakers in each door and some with one. Mine has the one lower and shaker 500. Is the extra speaker higher in the door a part of the shaker 1000 package?

edit. Forget it brain fart. I do have the upper speakers in my car.

I think the Shaker 1000 set up comes with subs in the back. Can someone verify this? Thanks.

There are two decent sized subs in the trunk with a pretty nice enclosure for the 1000. One of the nicer factory sound systems I have seen.

Standard system: 2 speakers in the doors, 2 in the package tray. mid/treble range with a little bass.

500: Adds subs in the doors down low, plus amps for them. There's some bass

1000: Adds dual subs in an enclosure in the back, plus more amps. More bass.

Each system is labeled on the head unit accordingly if left stock: Nothing, Shaker 500, Shaker 1000.

/I was bored.

The upper door speakers with the Shaker 500 system are not very good IMO. I will be looking to replace them in the near future. The stock ones are flat sounding and dull. I've heard people have had excellent results waking up this system with this simple change.

I have the Shaker 500 but with a 1600watt mono amp for the Infinity Kappa's in the trunk and for a Vert it's not too shabby !

What speakers to you plan on using to replace them? I'm curious.

Polk's db571's seem like a good value....and if I like them, i'll replace the rear decks with these as well.

I have a new set of these just lying here in the box I may try if it's not too hard to get into removal of the door panels ? never done them on the S-197 before.

Those will work great. Actually very easy to switch them out. I put Infinity Kappas in mine, only problem was the external crossover, which the Reference series don't have.

I put those Reference 6x8 in my dad's escape hybrid, sound so much better than the cheap stock ones.

Do recommend you get the wire hookup dealies:

They will make life easier (plug and play), and will also not require you to cut your harness (which I'm not terribly fond of, but have done) to install the speakers. It's your choice, of course.
