Shaker 500 ate my CD's after re-tune. Now what?
They hook it up to the world diagnostic system and override it. The radio has it's own mini computer inside it.
They have to do the same thing when you put a different Shaker in your car. The Shakers have to be programmed to work on any car. You can't buy one off ebay and put it in, won't work. When I got my radio replaced, they had to put it in for me because when I put it in myself it wouldnt turn on

Hey dustin, do you have experience with the issue of the replaced shaker 500. I upgraded mine from the base unit and the cd player wont work. What do I tell the good folks at ford to do to fix it?
Hey I hope I'm not too late coming to this thread. I just wanted to say I have a similar problem with my Mach 460 6 Disc headunit in my 2003 Mustang. I don't think it has anything to do with the tune, or even disconnecting the battery. I just think that one of the discs may have gotten stuck mid cycle of whatever it was doing. The cheapest (and easiest) way I found to resolve that issue for my Mach unit is to take another disc and stick inside the disc opening. Not trying to stick it all the way in there, but just enough so that it touches the loose disc allowing it to be completely ejected. I've used this method since getting my '03 and it works every time.
If you tried to install it yourself that's probably why it doesn't work, the dealer needs to configure it. It depends on what they'll try to charge you to initialize it. If they're going to charge you $100, you're better off buying aftermarket.
The only issue I've had with my new Shaker is that the paint on the #3 button is flaking off. When this one dies, I've going aftermarket, these Shakers are junk.
BTW the Shaker units have internal trouble codes if there's a software issue. Follow this to learn how to read the codes and diagnose your problem.
The only thing you can't do with this is clear the codes yourself, the dealer has to do that

Eject Error just happened to me last night. I ejected slot 6 and it came out fine. Unfortunately, the radio then displayed "Eject Error". I tried to select another CD to listen to and then it said "Bad CD". No matter what I did, it wouldn't eject or play any other slot nor will it load in slot 6 (the empty one).
I drive the hell out of my car and the 36K mile warranty is no longer effective. Guess I'll just take the unit out and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just tried it this morning. Unfortunately, it didn't work
. It did go into the auto eject sequence but the end result was "Eject Error". Guess I'll just have to tear into the dash.

Just take it in for warranty work. The audio guy will look at it, verify that it doesn't work, and order you a new shaker. At least, that's how it worked for me. I don't think it will be difficult because this seems to be a common issue.

To those afraid of dealerships: It's minor enough that they didn't even have to drive the car out of the waiting line. I stood around while the audio guy looked at it and I was off in 30 min., including waiting time.
38k miles in <18 months. Only the driveline is still under warranty.
Here's the down and dirty. Took the stereo out and then the CD unit. As I'm taking out the CD unit I notice a couple small plastic rectangular bars. Upon further investigation, they are gear teeth that have been sheered off.
So now I am going to re-install the stereo minus the CD player. The warranty is expired but I'll see what the dealer says. Unfortunately, I bought the car in VA and I live in SC. So none of the dealers are really interested in helping.
Maybe this is just the sign to get a new stereo with Bluetooth and Nav. . .

I did not do anything to my stereo, except press eject to take out a cd (and it did eject that cd) then it did that Initializing thing and then said "Cd Error." The next time I started my car, it started playing a cd in slot#1 so I thought it was all better, so I pressed load and it switched it to Slot#6 and then said CD Error again. So now, it says slots full when only 5 of 6 are full. I tried disconnecting the battery but it didn't help. This all happened THE DAY AFTER my factory warranty was up. Stupid Shaker. I had this stereo replaced last year too.
