Ford lists these systems as follows:

Shaker 1000 Audio System
Includes AM/FM stereo with MP3 capable 6-disc in-dash CD changer and 10 Audiophile speakers.

Shaker 500 Audio System
Includes AM/FM stereo with MP3 capable 6-disc in-dash CD changer and 8 speakers.

I know the Shaker 1000 adds the 2 subs in the trunk. They claim the Shaker 1000 has audiophile speakers. Is there really any difference between the speakers they use in these two systems?

On the stock Shaker 500 we have:
1 pair of tweeters
1 pair of mid-range woofers
1 pair of subwoofers
1 pair of rear speakers

That's a total of 8 speakers.

 

I think the question was, is there a quality difference between the speakers in the 2 systems (1000 vs 500).

To which I do not have an answer, sorry.

 

An easy way would be to check the part #s on the rear deck speakers.

Thanks - anyone have this data from a Shaker 1000 equipped car. Mine's a convertible and the speakers are not easily accessible.

they're the same.. I have no sources to back up my claim, but I don't see Ford installing higher quality speakers without making a big deal about it - at least more than adding the word "audiophile."

 

My 05 with shaker 1000 has XW7F-18808-BB as a part number on the rear deck speakers.

 

That part is now superseded by 6U5Z18808CA $25.97 retail, $16.57.


It looks like the 07 has a different speaker. FWIW the amplifiers and woofers for the Shaker 500 or 1000 are listed as $500 each.

While on the the shaker speaker subject. Where are the tweeters located? I never had the door panel off yet, so I'm not sure if they are behind there. I know there are 5x7's in the rear deck and in the doors along with the 8" subs. I couldn't imagine ford putting 2 way speakers in the doors...

 

They did.

 

With the door speakers they are in two locations. There are tweeters in the upper door panel with modest preforations while the door woofers have the big boom box grilles.

 

aren't the kappas 8 ohm? Im not that well versed in this sorta stuff but wouldn't that cause a problem? The new speakers have twice the resistance as the oem speakers??

 

I'm not an audio guru, but I think you would generally upgrade to an aftermarket amp to power any sort of decent aftermarket speakers. I don't think factory HU's can typically do much of anything other than power the cheap factory speakers that they were minimally spec'd for.

 

The Kappa's are rated 2 ohm. Their website states:
True Four Ohms— All Kappa speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Kappa Speakers has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and can be safely driven by any head unit.

Their low impedance and high sensitivity (94 dB) would make them an ideal choice to mate with the Shaker 1000 headunit.

Speakers are by far the most important component in a stereo system. Typical audiophiles spend 50% of their budget on speakers and 50% on the rest source(s)/amp/preamp.

I've read that the shaker 500 and 1000 have a total peek power output of 500 and 1000 respectively, With claims like that, how the hell can they put a 25W speaker in there????? One would blow a 25W speaker in a heartbeat pumping 500 watts thru it...... NO?

But I have to say, the shaker 500 was a MAJOR selling point for me... I had to have at least the 500...

 

well with factory speakers and factory head units, they don't put out a lot of power. What you're looking at is the peak rating. 25w is peak...judging by that I would say consistent power or RMS power (root median square) is probably something like 10-12 watts. So that's why it's so much better replacing the factory speakers with aftermarket speakers and head units. I would only just get the basic standard audio package and then save up for a kick *** audio system!
