As far as pricing goes. The $1200 cost of the Shaker 1000 is applied whether or not you are adding it to a Deluxe (meaning basic radio) or a Premium car (which costs more but comes with the 500)
I thought that was a bit disappointing, but figured the $1000 rebate will pay for it.
Who the heck wants to watch a DVD when you have a Mustang to drive?

Since the head unit is so much larger on the 2005 (is that what they call double DIN on Web sites like Best Buy and Crutchfield.com?), what can be swapped in to replace it... for example, will one of those DVD fold-out displays fit? If anyone has one, did you lose any functions on your stock system?

I just went to Ultimate Electronics to check out the car stereo systems. I explained what the Shaker 1000 included, and the approximately $1300 price. They couldn't exactly duplicate the 1000 features. They came up with a 6 disc changer in trunk, single in dash, mp3 capable, 2 10" woofers in trunk, 700 Watts. They estimated that their system would cost about the same as Fords. Unless the above opinion about Ford sounding awful is truly correct, I can't see the advantage of going aftermarket.

I've finally switched my order back to the Shaker 500. It turns out really all you get is an extra pair of Audiophile subs with the Shaker 1000. If you can make good with 6 premium Audiophile speakers (which are the same regardless of Shaker upgrade), you save a LOT of trunk space.
My complaint is I'll lose the 6-CD in-dash changer if I get another say, DVD screen head unit (I don't want to change CDs in the trunk, by the way.
As for the prev. question, I think it's best to get the Shaker 500 and do those upgrades. Sounds like you only got less wattage, but when are you running the stereo in FULL? You'll go deaf before the volume reaches max :spin:

I don't know how to quote multiple post in the same reply. This will become important shortly.

Anyway, So what you are telling me is I can encircle my single DIN head in two inches of plastic a different color texture, and fit than the rest of the instrument panel and have no problem? :nono:

Sounds like a problem to me.

That whole in dash 6CD thing could be a bugger to duplicate I dont see many of those and when I do they cost like no other. But who uses CDs anymore anyway.

I'm going aftermarket...I figured I may as well get the exact system I wanted.
I found this system that does color change as well. It's a japanese import, so the FM range is a bit weird, but I don't really care that much about that. This one plays MD's and CD's, and has a sony proprietary port for me to hook in an XM receiver and CD changer.
I have almost the entire system, save the subs...gotta see what size the door holes are.
Oh and guys, stereos aren't all about how loud they go. It's about the refinement of the sound...oftentimes you buy a more powerful amp, not for how loud they go, but for how well they play more quietly.
Someone here on the forums did this a while back...

When we purchased the 1998 GT, we didn't get the 460 upgrade and I had a custom system put in to the car. It sounded great, but it never looked like it was a part of the car. One thing I like about the killer systems they are putting in cars these days is how everything is integrated into the car from day one. Most new car head units use external pre-amps and amps. Plus there are the wires integrated into the factory wiring harness, speaker enclosures that were designed to match the interior, and the warranty to consider. Call me lazy, but it's Shaker 1000 all the way for me!

I am for sure going aftermarket. It will sound better. However, the decision I have now is whether to get the 500 just for the installed wires so I don't have to run the wires myself. I might get the 500 to use the speakers for a while and spend a bunch on a sub/amp/enclose right away.

I have a question about the shaker sytem...where is the amp or amps located at in the car? All the pictures I have seen, I don't see them and if they are under the hood, that system won't last long I don't think???

Unless you are wanting to demolish your 05' by vibrating it to pieces I agree you will never need that much wattage.

I agree that $1153 (Invoice Price) is expensive for the upgrade from Shaker 500 to Shaker 1000. But I still would am going for that instead of an aftermarket system. It will sound great, I won't have to tear apart the car, added resale value, plus a comparable aftermarket system would still be expensive anyway. I've had friends spend $3,000 - $5,000 on stereo systems, so I'll just let it come installed from the factory and not have to worry about it.

It seems it would be prudent to reserve judgment until you actually get to hear a 500 vs. a 1000 vs. aftermarket.
FWIW, I've heard the 1000, and it sounded pretty good, not as good as some systems I've built in previous cars, but pretty good nonetheless.
Fortunately for me, I won't be ordering my car until they are already on the lots, so I'm going to go in and take a listen, then decide.
Lastly, I don't understand why people are saying that the 1000 subs take up a lot of room in the trunk. It really isn't much room at all compared to the Mach subs. I have a nice amp and 12" sub that I could put in the trunk, but it would take up way more room than the 1000 subs do...maybe some of you have way more compact subs than I do.

now, what if you you get the shaker 500, and you want to add two subs in the trunk wtih an amp for them could it be possible?? I think that would be way cheaper than 1,770$ man I really want it the shaker 1000 but that price is way too high
