Sequencial/ Chase Taillights fail NJ Inspection
So I wait my hour and a half at the wonderful NJ inspection station. Finally get up to idiot inspector, he tells me to hit the brake. He starts to walk away but goes back and asks me to hit them again. He asks, "did you put those on there". I said yes, not even considering it will be a problem. So Mr. idiot inspector goes in the office and starts digging through the "how can we **** off the NJ resident even more" manual, comes back out and tells me he is going to have to fail me because it is considered an add on modification or something stupid like that. I tell him, this is standard equipment in the 2010 Mustangs, how is mine different. He says, you have a 2006 Mustang, not a 2010. So I tell the dip**** that I can just flip the switch in the trunk and it will be normal. He says "I can't let you do that here, you'll have to go out in the parking lot , flip the switch, then come back through reinspection". So if there are any NJ folks out there, make sure you go back to normal mode on your sequencials before you go through inspection...and if your anywhere near the Mount Holly Inspection Station on Rt 38, check out the long black tire burn marks going from the inspection lanes out to the highway.

Try telling him it was a factory option. Besides, what does tail lights have to do with emissions anyway? Are they also checking brake linings, tire tread depth, window tint, and what ever else fancies them?

Man, you guys in NJ really need to secede from that socialist state. Maybe rejoin the union at some point. Better yet, just vote for the right people and cut out the BS that passes for government there.

Texas does emissions testing as well as safety. Of course if your car is newer most places(around here at least) don't really bother to check everything. When I got my inspection done they turned it on, checked the exhaust and gave me my sticker. They check to make sure all the lights work, horn works, seat belts and such. I was in and out in 15 minutes.

If all's I had to do to pass an inspection was drive out of a parking lot, flip a switch and return - then I don't think I'd be too upset. Sounds to me like an easy fix.

Wow talk about being an idiot! I'm from Old Bridge, NJ and took mine to the Edison DMV. Angie passed with no problems at all and she has sequentials as well. You just happened to go to your dmv on a day when they let the idiots out. Sorry!

Yeah, like all the police officers wouldn't do the same thing. (I'm sure it's a low number though...)

I was lookin' about... anyone know the exact NJAC section that deals with this bit?
I found it in Texas' code, but I had a cool post and everything... and the forum went nutz0rz and forgot I was logged in... The NJ stuff was difficult to research... I obviously couldn't find the right set of words with google... or in the state's website... after half an hour, or so, I gave up, hoping I'd found the relevant info. Texas was a snap, there's a keen little search in it that uses a pull down... found it in 3 minutes. Had the post all ready... and then bam, locked out. So I don't have the links anymore because I hulked out a little and shut down the computer. My bad.
But the relevant parts are this: NJ code says that the equipment must be maintained "in accordance with original manufacturer specifications". I.e., don't be moddin' yer lights, or anything else... and given the wording, that's pretty much it: Stock or fail. The entire car. Pretty stiff. But again, I didn't find the exact NJ code on this.
Whereas the Texas code, *specifically* on turn signals no less, simply says, in effect: They gotta be here, and here, these colors (red, amber, or somewhere in there) and indicate where you're going.
That's it. So simple, even a caveman can do it. As long as they flash, or even better, *point* (like chasers/sequencers) they pass. Tada.
You need to lobby your state reps and get that bug in the code worked out.
/or move, as has been said. And tell 'em why... maybe then they'll change it when everyone moves out.

I chuckled the first time I saw the Wawa name while driving down to Ocean City.
I went to an idiot gas station for an inspection in February with my Trailblazer. Told me he was going to have to fail me for the license plate frame. The dealer put that on 4 years ago and never had a problem until now. He claimed they are illegal, but I still see the dealers still put them on. Luckily he let me take it off, but still failed for the e-brake. grrrrrr. Went back and passed, but the guy this time did a sloppy job scraping off the old sticker. Left all the glue and pieces on, then slaps on the new one wrinkled. Grrrrr....
