Hey guys,
I was poking around on ebay and came across this auction.

I hope that works as a click-able link...not really sure how to do it. Don't know if this will show it clear enough but here's one pic from that auction and I have to say that cloth may be the way to go for me. I love the ponies as the fabric pattern.

Good to see that the bolsters look a little bigger than I initially thought- I was a bit concerned about that.
I'm also happy that the lever to drop the seat is at the top... my SVT focus has the same setup- and was the first car I saw that did it (and judging by the reactions of everyone who rides in my car, they hadn't seen it either). It sounds minor, but it's one of those things that you can't believe they didn't think of sooner.
It doesn't look too bad, but I thought the pony pattern was a little too cutesy- wish they just went with a mesh texture- but i'm gong to be getting the darkest cloth interior offered, so maybe it'll be even more subtle.

i do not find those attractive, the ponies are kindy cheesy, the color is also unapealing in my opinon. Of course my car will have blue leather so you know... different strokes.

I mention all of that to say that it is no mystery how these seats got out to me or anyone else who has worked for JCI or Lear. When the new Camry was ramping up back in the ninties (that model has obviously since been replaced) we did about forty seats of pre-production front bucket seats for the car, the majority of these were leather btw. These seats are "test run" pre-production units only and cannot be installed in a car for liability reasons. This is kinda ironic too as they are almost certainly the best seats that will ever run off the line as tolerances are watched like a hawk.
When we were done with those seats, or any new seat, they were supposed to get red-tagged and taken to the dumpster. Well, while there was a company rule against taking home prototype seats there was no hard and fast rule against taking home red-tagged scrap if you got permission and acquired the appropriate paperwork. (supervisors willing to turn a blind eye help too as corp. would not be amused) Once those red tagged seats hit the rear dock they were no longer seats, they were red-tagged scrap. That might be skirting the rules a bit, but I watched it happen several times. You figure it out from there.
btw, I never actually got a set of seats myself.
Those seats being on e-bay makes it very likely that there are leather GT seats, etc. running around as well. However, most of the folks keep their seats from my experience. But think about it...if the 05 ends up being a huge success having a set of red-leather pre-production GT buckets might be worth a little something eventually. I mean, they would likely be the only set of their kind in existence.

I wonder if the supplier of those seats lost thier jobs or will lose their job?
