Scratched Mirror

Here is the story...
A guy that lives next door or at least stays next door has a green ranger, and one morning as i was on my way to class i noticed a huge green spot on the end of my mirror casing. And it is the exact color of the truck that he drives. We don't get along great and we'll my sister knows the cops and she asked them what i should do. See i don't know he hit it for sure but it is almost definate. The Cop said " go to a body shop and get what it would cost to fix it and take it to the guy and tell him you know someone who seen him hit your car and he can either pay for the damage or I can get a warrant for him and settle it in court".
So what should I do...
What kinda cost am i looking replacing the mirror
PICS Enclosed

Thanks

You will need a better picture than that to go to court.
It shows up on my screen as being out of focus. Enlarged it still looks out of focus.

Whatever you do, don't wait for a long time, call him on his mistake while it is still fresh in his mind. You'll have an easier time getting the truth out of him. The idea of telling him you will see him in court is good, might scare him into admitting it, but don't pull that card out until all other civilized conversation has halted. Try and be nice about it first, see where that goes.

Have you tried to polish it out with a paint or plastic cleaner? I can't tell anything from your pic, but I've been able to remove a lot of damage using various auto detailing products. Trying to get somebody to pay for damage like this is going to be time consuming and probably not worth the effort. He's probably going to deny hitting your car anyway.

Good luck.
