Purchased HID Headlamp Kit direct from Saleen. Delivered price $1133.00. Kit consists of headlamp assemblies (DOT Approved). ballasts, wiring harness, fuses, and relays.

When I went through parts list the main harness was missing. Called Saleen and they overnighted the harness at no charge!

The kit isn't exactly plug and play. The front facia, wheel well covers, and upper facia cover have to be removed. Holes have to be drilled to mount the ballast and relays. No wires need to be cut/spliced. It took about 2 hours total to complete the install.

The kit is well made with stainless bolts/screws, and a quality harness. The light assemblies are stamped Ford/Sylvania as are the OEM assemblies. Aiming the lights was very easy as the adjustments are indentical.

Performance is fantastic! Driving with the low beams gives you the distance of normal high beam Halogens. The high function just adds to the low beam pattern, expanding the horizon upward. The two other things I noticed was a much wider horizontal beam with a more illumination directly in front fo the car. The light distribution was very uniform with no hot spots.

No, I dont' work for Saleen and yes, they are expensive. If you want quality and HID for the 05 Stang, this is the only current way to go.

Now if I only had $1133.00 to spend on this.....

How does it look with the fogs turned on at the same time? Does the contrast between the color of the bulbs in each unit make it look bad?

The fogs don't help with the HIDs. Need to address this in the future.

Well lts put it this way, two white torches left and right and two dim yellows in the middle. You will also notice the fog reflectors are not as shiny (rather dull) compared to the main headlights (stock or HID). I guess that has to do with suppliers and was not intentional with FordMoCo.

I think some Silverstars in those would help even out the look. I might order the Saleen HID kit next week.

Rick you wouldn't have happened to take any pictures? If so I'd love to see some.

If you go to the xlighting web site (Division of Sylvania) they are coming out with exactly the same 5 1/4 HID headlight which is in the Saleen kit. They will sell for $700 a pair, but you will have to do some very serious hacking. If you include the OEM style harness relays and fuses and the entire headlamp assemblies, the Kit is worth it. To get a feel for costs, price a OEM headlamp assembly from FORD parts. I suspose to save some money, you could always sell the old headlamp assenblies on E Bay or equivalent.

They look nice, any chance for some night shots showing the front of the car and another showing the lighting from the drivers seat?

Does anyone know what Kelvin rating these are? 4300K maybe? They look fairly white - the fogs actually look much bluer, but it could be the angle.

I'm very very interested in these - I love HID kits (had them OEM in my last car and retrofitted them into my motorcycle). They'll probably come out to $1800CDN though :bang: ...for that money, I could get a pretty awesome suspension set-up!

Oh well...still curious about the K rating...

Cheers
Kris

[attachmentid=24474]The bulbs and ballast are made by Osram (German Sylvania). The bulbs are latest DR 1 (Ignitor in base) with a color temperature of 4000 which gives off a diamond white light with no hint of blue. The fogs are 7000 and are definitely blue. To give you an idea of the beam distribution and color temperature, attached is a shot with low beams (no fogs) on a garage wall with the car several feet away.

$1200 is a lot to spend. Hope that helps.

thanks for the info!! I'm surprised about the 4000K, as the trend is heading closer to 5000K and 6000K for OEM applications. Also, never heard of this bulb type, I'll have to do a little googling.

thanks rick
