Actually, the cars in the Vintage Race have to be real cars, not repros, from what I understand. Check out the write-up from SAAC's website for the event below:
RACE GROUPS:
There will be 2 different races this year. The vintage race group will include original Cobras, GT40s, GT350s, Trans-Am cars from 1965-1971. The Mustang race group will be open to competition cars prepared for SCCA, GT-1, Trans-Am and restored NASCAR racers, 1972 through the present year. Other entries in both groups will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Both groups will practice on Friday and Saturday; they will have a warm-up on Sunday morning with the races on Sunday afternoon. We use the SCCA’s rule of thumb: 22 entries per mile of track, which means the cut-off is 50 cars. We doubt we’ll get that many. Our goal is to allow as many cars to safely compete as possible. Ideally no one should have to make any changes in their car from the last time it was raced just for this event. If it passed tech then, you’ll be good to go for this race.
So pretty much, if you read this properly, the cars in the 1st race WILL be REAL Cobras, GT40s, GT350Rs etc. They want REAL DEAL Shelby race cars and real vintage race cars here, as its by invitation only. So the whole "reproduction Shelby on a 6 cylinder" car really won't be on the track. Not that this is a good thing or a bad thing, but when you want to see this type of racing, you want to see the originals tear down the track!! I can't wait.

If they were REAL I'd agree with you. Once again there were probably 1 or 2 REAL GT-40's that were on the track and MAYBE 2-3 REAL Cobra's on the track. The bunch of GT-350 clones that you see in the vintage race are just that, clones. It's still really cool to watch but understand that they are not REAL race cars from the 60's......
Anyway, how was the event?
