SAAC 33 @ NJ Motorsports Park Aug 15-17! Anyone going?
With the news that SAAC and Carroll Shelby have settled their disputes, and me forgetting to post this sooner, I just wanted to see if any local forum members would be making the trek out to Millville NJ, for the annual SAAC convention. SAAC 33 is being held at the brand new New Jersey Motorsports Park. This place has 2 road courses, Lightning, and Thunderbolt. Both tracks looks KILLER! What SAAC 33 will have there, will blow everyone's mind! Hundreds upon hundreds of Shelby Mustangs, including real GT-350 R models, plus real Shelby Cobras (all motors, 260, 289 and 427), plus Ford GT40s, Sunbeam Tigers, Pantera, you name it. Plus, you will have tons of new Shelbys there, plus many other Mustangs of all types.
On Sunday (when I am going), is a vintage race (the Cobras, GT40, and Mustangs will run the road curcuit. Can't wait to hear that sound
), and at 12:40, there are parade laps for $10. This is a non-passing run around the road course, but still able to get the car up to a decent speed (60-70, but I have seen higher
). The best thing about Sunday though, is at 10 am, there is a Shine & Show, that is for ANY Mustang. A participation award is given for entering, and you can park the car on the Show field. Pretty cool. I plan on being there with several friends from Bad Mustangs. If anyone is coming out, please post up. I'll be happy to say hello if you see my car and stop by. Hope to see some fellow TMS members out next weekend (for me Sunday).

to run the road course) early in the AM to get through registration.
You do understand that the vast majority of the racing cars are just reproductions built off 6 cylinder fastbacks, right? There are a small few that are real actual race cars but their numbers are reduced every year as the prices go up. Pretty sad really as I remember a time not to long ago when the race field was all real vintage racers.
All that being said it's fun to watch a bunch of rich over agressive drivers show each other who's boss......

RACE GROUPS:
There will be 2 different races this year. The vintage race group will include original Cobras, GT40s, GT350s, Trans-Am cars from 1965-1971. The Mustang race group will be open to competition cars prepared for SCCA, GT-1, Trans-Am and restored NASCAR racers, 1972 through the present year. Other entries in both groups will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Both groups will practice on Friday and Saturday; they will have a warm-up on Sunday morning with the races on Sunday afternoon. We use the SCCA’s rule of thumb: 22 entries per mile of track, which means the cut-off is 50 cars. We doubt we’ll get that many. Our goal is to allow as many cars to safely compete as possible. Ideally no one should have to make any changes in their car from the last time it was raced just for this event. If it passed tech then, you’ll be good to go for this race.
So pretty much, if you read this properly, the cars in the 1st race WILL be REAL Cobras, GT40s, GT350Rs etc. They want REAL DEAL Shelby race cars and real vintage race cars here, as its by invitation only. So the whole "reproduction Shelby on a 6 cylinder" car really won't be on the track. Not that this is a good thing or a bad thing, but when you want to see this type of racing, you want to see the originals tear down the track!! I can't wait.
