Roving Web Cam

I am tempted to have two web cams hooked up and mount either front & back or left & right just to monitor while I am driving at stops etc, heck I could even set it on to motion and if someone gets within a range it will record them. Maybe I'll try it for a study purpose It may be fun ! Ed.

GottaHaveIt,
I’m glad you’re taking the lead in this, I have been thinking about something like this since the one post where someone got KEYED. So the motion thing sounds intriguing.
Are you using little Logitech USB cams attached to laptop? How are you going to handle your power needs when the car is off? This is great keep us posted.
Thank You,
MustangDan

Some people on the 350Z forum had mentioned doing this, no one ever stepped up and did it.
Just get a really big harddrive (200+gb) and have the camera record onto that. BTW, hide it, does no good if they break in and take the hd with them.

Okay, my 2 cents since I did this to my 97 GT after someone egged it. Pick up 2 wireless x10 camera's with wide angle lens. While on the go I slapped a laptop in the trunk with a ac/dc converter for the receivers of the camera's. When parked I simply folded down the backseat and set the laptop to record, the closed the seat. 1 camera sat in the back window and one on the dash. Sure they are noticable, but now I would use button cams that you could actually install into the headrest instead. That way I could watch the video's after. Downfall - no side view, so I then set them up so I could see the sides of the car (someone trying to open the door). Worked pretty good. At the house, since they are wireless, I could keep an eye on my car while laying in my bed.
I am currently looking into products for my new car that may work. Smallest camera I have found so far fits in the end of a pen so I should be able to install 4 of those in the car and hide them pretty good. Also found a microphone the size of a pencil eraser that will hear up to 100 ft away. Need to find a spot on the outside of the car that it would not easily get wet.

let us know what you find. also, what does a setup like that (your old one or the new one u want) cost? I already have the laptop (80GB is enough, right?) but what about the cameras, power supply, installation, etc run?

Hey look, a thread derail that didn’t become caused by one of my replies! I have the best custom title.
Anyway, that’s a pretty cool idea, I’ve always wanted to mount a camera but I’m sure I never will. But if you don’t already have the stuff on hand, it seems like its going to be a pain to buy at that stuff on the off chance someone does do something, it will be that one day you forget to setup everything.
