Roush Mustang
I was talking with a fellow at a get together this weekend (he has a sweet 1970 Mustang 351 and Roush Stage 3). He took his Roush Mustang to get signed by Jack Roush who was in town last week. He was talking to him about the new Roush Mustangs. Apparently Jack told him there would be no more Roush Mustangs, only Roush stage packages for the 2005 and up Mustangs. He said they weren't making enough money off the Mustangs and it was better for them to just sell packages. Can anyone else confirm this?
Yeah, I can see that.
They used to offer a performance like no other, but now whats left?
They just can't compete dollar for dollar.
What better way for them to make money, then to target the V6 and V8 crowd with parts and packages.

Roush 380R W/O options = GT + 16800 = est.$25000+16800=41800
Or SVT Cobra w/ all options and 390hp and IRS for 35500
Which would you choose.
A lot can be done to the cobra with 5-6 grand.

Yeah, this guy I was talking too was pretty nice. He told me that the Roush he was looking at was $57,000. He offered the dealership $38,000. They laughed at him! A week later they sold it to him for $38,800. I think he got the last laugh
I have seen 03/04 cobras going for as low as 29 grand new. I know what I would pick. In my opinion the cobra makes way more power and looks a lot better. I am not a fan of heavy body kits. I love the clean look. I guess thats the reason I always liked the steeda. They are just a lot cleaner looking car than saleen or roush.
I recently drove a 2002 360R. I was very impressed with it. I liked it better than the Cobra. The car handled better, felt more balanced and still had a lot of power (not quite as much as a Cobra). The 360/380R doesn't have too much body kit IMHO. I am not a real big fan of the other Roush offerings because of the excessive body kit.

The word from Roush is:
There haven't been any discussions about 'doing away with the vehicle program'.
We are transitioning into more of a parts focused business plan, which is where I think Jack's explaination was heading. Allowing room for intrepretation... we'll watch the business model expand into a parts business, we'll track its success and make business decisions based on the most profitable model.
Above all Jack loves the Roush Mustang, but isn't stupid when it comes to good business decisions. Also, conside this... Would we spend a lot of time developing a car, if there isn't an intention to sell it?

Well, glad it's cleared up. Like I said, I heard it from someone who talked to him in person. If he misunderstood, then that's good. But people can develop cars to sell their parts. Either way, glad to see Roush is still going to make Mustangs.
