Just talked with my dealer today and he said the latest report has my car scheduled/bucked but that there is a 10 day hold for emissions. I still do not have a VIN# or a build date. Anyone have any idea of what is going on?

If it's truly bucked, that means the car is ~almost~ on the assembly line. I think the term comes from the unit that the body rides on down the line, the "buck". They get bucked, and then rolled onto the assembly line shortly thereafter.

Can you get a prinout of the Order Status? You would think that if it's bucked, it's got a VIN. Hopefully he's looking at an old status and that a new one would reflect the status properly.

Well that is my quandary. I have a copy of the vehicle status report that says Scheduled/Bucked but it does not have a build date or VIN#.
There is also a 10 day hold for emissions.

I have a feeling I should call my dealership and get some more info about my order, all I got was a sheet where the guy listed my options and my deposit. The genius actually wrote "Locate" then wrote "Order" over it... Maybe I should drive to the plant in Mi and just buy the car from Ford itself, cause this guy doesn't know anything.

The 10 day hold for emmissions may make sense. What state do you live in?

When I got my 1987 GT new from Ford, in California, it was apparent that they were hand-smogging each car individually for a while, trying to get them out to CA despite not having blanket clearance to ship them. In my glove box was a sticker stating how many miles were put on the car prior to delivery, and mine had 46!

It could be that if you live in a state that has different rules (like the CA cars have their own options codes), then it will be held up for a week or two. No biggy in the big picture, though.

I am buying my car in Oregon a cross-border state so I beleave the California emmission standards apply. I still don't understand why there is no VIN# or build date yet.

Yeah thats very odd you do not have a VIN, but have a scheduled date That dosen't add up...... It's my understanding , Vin is assigned well in advance of build date. Maybe Kevin/ BEK can confirm.

Thanks bullittman and legendlimetime,
Had not read that thread yet. I was out of town on business for the last week. Good read and it did help. I still don't understand how a car could be "bucked" and not have at least a VIN# assigned to it.
I wonder how many people in the group that have ordered a car have their cars listed as "bucked" on the vehicle status reports?

Just called my dealer and still no VIN#. They said they were only allowed to order 3 mustangs, 1 of which is mine but I would have thought by now I would have at least a VIN since this was placed back in May.
