Well the end of the road is here, (even though I am still on the fence about replacing the engine) after 7years and 16 days, 58k+ fun filled miles and 4 accidents (3 minor & 1 major) the engine is done. The engine went yesterday while going to and from work. Thankfully she didn't break down on the side of the road but died with dignity pulling into the Ford dealership where they diagnosed a broken rod today.

Suggestions, comments?

If you can source a used one then you may be ok, but I don't know if you would want to or can.

Now that's just for your parts... labor who knows man... could go even higher depending on how complicated the swap.

I would guess (and this is a total guess) comparing my swap you're looking at probably around 2k in labor.

You can pick up a used 4.6 all day long though for probably 2k or maybe even less... check ebay.

I sold my 4.6 and transmission for around that.

Also if your heads can be salvaged then you could pick up a forged short block and have a forged 4.6 ready for boost

just wondering, I just rolled over 50k, was hoping 100k would be easy...

 

It was just bang when I rolled to a red light. Well more like a clunk clunk which on the ride home turned into a jack hammer! This is not to say I didn't drive her like I stole her during the almost 60k but at the moment it was a nice ride into work.

 

Personally, lucky you! When my engine goes up, I'll garage the car and start collecting the parts for a solid engine build. I pushed the limits of the 4.6l and want to continue doing so with a new, built motor, taking it to the lower 11s and perhaps 10s.

Congrats on your wedding, BTW. Love her like there's no tomorrow!

**** skippy along with some ported heads and however your going to dress-up the intake side of the engine - that is if your gonna keep the 3v.
