Replacement of auto trans shifter

Hi, need to replace my auto trans shifter with an oem on 06 mustang GT, already have console out and am awaiting arrival of new shifter, my question is can this be done with out getting under car and all from inside? Here is what part looks like. Thanks Paul

It is a fairly simple swap done from inside. No need to get under the car. I had mine done in less than an hour with basic tools. Just go slow and take a picture of the existing shifter once you have the middle console open.

And this might help for the console:

Here is photo with it off. I removed the 4 bolts one on each corner, but what's the trick to get tranny linkage shifter unbolted from underneath ? I can't seem to pull it far enough up into car to do that. Does it have to be done from under?

I found it easier to go under and undo the special connector for the shift cable linkage. That's how I went about the cable. The shiftrt then just lifts out and you replace it. Go back under and hook up the clip. That way you are 100% sure of the linkage adjustment. JMO on how I did mine. Good luck.

That's my answer. Was looking for a way to do inside but I didn't think it possible
