Remove Windshield Dots?

Has anyone tried removing the dots behind the rear view mirror at the top of the windshield?? I'd like to mount a radar detector up there and don't want to reduce visibility/range.

NO reason to remove them. They cause no interference.

I don't know how to remove them. However they will absolutely reduce the range of the radar detector and can completly block the lidar detector.

Not to mention that a suction cup doesnt stick to them, trust me. I dont think there's any good way to get rid of them, shy of having a new windshield put in. That being said, I know that there is a company that makes a radar detector holder that hangs from the rearview, the ones I saw looked pretty good.

People still use Radar Detectors? Are they worth the hassle anymore? Maybe I am just older and less likely to drive like a bat out of hell.

Mine is wireless and I have it mounted just below the rear view mirror. I dont leave home without one. It keeps my foot in check.

That would be my bet. Just keep a shallow angle and you shouldn't do any damage. Squirt a little Windex up there for lube.

I wonder if brake cleaner would take them off. That stuff removes paint and melts plastics.....I've found that out the hard way

I wouldn't try it but if you do spray a little on a rag OUTSIDE away from the vehicle and then try so you don't get over-spray on anything. Brake cleaner over-spray on your interior would ruin any thing it came in contact with other than glass. Heck for that matter you could try a little brake fluid on a rag, that stuff is vicious.

I not a 100% on this but I believe those "dots" are part of the front windshield defroster. I'm probably wrong but that's what I thought they were.

I have that mount cant say enough good things about it. Perfect mount, great quality. I also wanted my radar on the "dots" area but got this instead and haven't looked back.

Front windshield defroster??? The front windshield is defrosted by hot air, not an electrical heating element like the rear window.

i used goo gone over the dots when i had adhered my ezpass to the windshield and then decided against putting it there. I did not scrape hard but did use goo gone and it only took of the gluey residue from the velcro strips. Did not affect the dots at all.
What kind of wirless detector does the other poster have? What kind of mount! Details!

I believe the dots are just to help block sunlight glare when it gets to that point overtop of the rearview mirror where the sunvisors cant block it anymore. I remember having vehicles that didn't have these "dots" and sun glare could get really annoying.

those are for the factory sun banner.... all they do is serve as a transition from the windwhield to thebody of the car. it blocks the sun at the extremes of the windshield edges.

good luck trying to remove them, im pretty sure they are built into the glass.
you'll probably just mess up your windshield trying

Those dots are baked on when the windshield is made. You'll definately scratch the glass if you are successful in removing them.
