What, if any, parts do you think will be recalled? I know in the past, some of the first gen. models had to be recalled due to small flaws.

My guess will probably be the tranny, or nothing at all...

I'm shooting for nothing...

When I asked what problems people were having with their Mustangs......see "Mustang Repairs", or "durability" under the SN-95 section.

Most peolple listed 97 and 99 as problems years. 99 being a new body....and the 05 will be a new body and move to a new factory.

So there's a good possibility I might wait for an 06 for that reason.....unless I need that 3 spoke steering. Let others be my guinea pigs. I want a good deal too, for the 2005 there won't be a rebate.

I want a rebate........I'm hoping to get a rebate around late 06 with the dealers trying to dump the 06's.

I would wait, but I can't. I need a new car soon, and October is already pushing it. If they were out now, I'd buy it in a second...

Does it call out, or does it make you have more plitonium?

Yeah, that darn turn signal fluid!!! Actually, the first years of most models usually have interior fit and finish problems. I'd be surprised if it happened on this car with all the work they are doing to make it solid but you never know.

The automatic tranny is an updated model (2003) of a trannie they started building in 1999. I don't think there will be any problems other than all the torque from the 3V - V8 ripping them to shreads. The trannie is rated @ 350 lb. ft. of torque, so the GT engine is pretty close to the max. since rumors are it puts out a lot more than 320 lb. ft.

The manual trannies, T5 for the V6 and T3650 for the V8, have been in production for years. The T5 came out a couple years after Eve ate the apple and the T3650 has been used in Mustangs since February 2001.

I have had problems with the hydrozilator valve not compensating for the increased thrust of the flangejet isolator. After 2 visits, I was told that the clagsman hyper throttle had mis-energized the anti-flexor valve. They replaced the framis vaculator and I was good to go. Since then, no problems!

A Mr. Fusion fices some of those problems, but it's an aftermarket accessory.

Anyway, if there are any first year problems, they'll probably be minor annotances, such as fit problems, or other things.

I don't think there will many, if any at all.

I really think Ford will do a good launch on this car and there will be no major problems. The F150 has been very smooth so far and they would take a beating in the press if the Mustang was a lemon.

After seeing the F-series launch over the last year, I would have NO reservations about buying the first one. Ford has spent SO much testing time, to make up for not having another country to release the vehicles two years prior to US launch like Japan does.

Anyone hear lately that the next Crown Vic supposedly will be called Fairlane and be based on the DEW lite platform as well? B) Possibly based on the 49 show car?

If that's true, it'd be pretty cool. Is that platform big enough for a Crown-Vix style car? Yeah know, that degment of the population likes their cars big(ger).

I haven't heard the story quite like that.

First of all DEW-Lite is actually D2C, which is the 05 Mustang platform.

Second, when the 05 stang was shown in January, a Ford senior exec. said that 7 more vehicles were planned off of D2C.

Third, the Crown Vic, GM & TC are supposed to get a major update for 2008, but they will still be on their own body on frame platform, not D2C.

Here are the rumored D2C cars:

1. New 4 seat T-Bird
2. Lincoln LS replacement
3. Lincoln Coupe, 2 door 4 seat, a new MK-VIII type car
4. Lincoln Roadster, 2 seat
5. Ford Fairlane, 2 door luxury coupe - this is probably the "49" you heard of.
6. Some Mercury version of any of the 4 seat cars mentioned above
7. A Mercury version of the 05 Mustang (Cougar)

However, don't hold your breath. When the Lincoln LS was introduced, Ford said that there would be at least 5 more vehicles based off D/EW-98. Only 1 of them ever made it to production, the 2 seat T-Bird. So I would expect that only 2 to 4 of the proposed D2C cars will make it to production.
