Does anyone know how wide of a rear tire we can get on the 05. What about on the front?

for the rears,

there is roughly 14" between the inner fender and wheel lip (which is already rolled from the factory). Subracting for clearance, 12" wide tires should be able to fit, barring any clearance issues from the exhaust, suspension, etc.

I would think going over 275's would be somewhat pointless, as would be going more then 1" wider difference between front and rears. Thats plenty of meat.

I agree with the 1" difference between front and back. One of the Photoshop cars has a wider rear tire and lowered a little and I think its a good look for the car.

Too much difference and it will push badly. You can not just 'guess' engineering, lowering springs or tire width does not mean instant handling, it has to coincide with roll center of gravity, proper shock valve rates, and suspension geometry too.

I just like the lowered stance. I'm going to wait and see how the car drives before I do anything to it. This 05 has turned me into a 16 year old again, I want to be driving "a cool car"

My first cars were a 66 coupe and a 67 fastback so I'm hyped on the reto styling

I'm going to try to get 19's on the rear and 18's on the front, maybe 295's on the back if they'll fit.

I am going to see if 295's in the rear and 265's in the front work out on 18" rims. I did that tire comparision thingy and found I will only be off on the speedo .5 MPH when doing 60MPH and 1.4MPH when doing 100MPH.

My first mod will be a nicer set of wheels/tires and takin it down to take out the wheel well gap. I hate the look of the 50 series tires and since I live in a sunny climate I can get rid of the comromised all season tires.

Im thinking 275/40 rears and 255 fronts.

Steve,
I thought 10's would probably fit, but 12" tires ? Are you sure they won't stick out past the outer lip of the rear fender? I want fat meats on the rear, but i also want them tucked up inside the lip!

If I had my preference, I'd cram some 315's on the back. I like fat sneakers in the rear, strictly for the look.

If magazines can run 13's with pirelli 235 all seasons then a nice wide sticky meat should make launching even better. Magazines also really seem to praise the handling "for a solid axle car" as they put it. I can only imagine going from a 235/50 series all season tire to a 255-275 40 series performance tire would do.

I saw an '04 competition orange mustang GT today with 310 (?) / 35 ZR 17 s on the back. :worship:

The rims were off a Cobra, because they had a snake on them. I am not sure if they are OEM Cobra tires though.

I'll be going 255's or 275's all around on 18's.
