Re-setting Check Engine light?

Must have not had the gas cap completely socked down. The gas gauge quit and the warning came on about low fuel. The check engine light came on as well. Tightend up the cap and everything went back to normal except the check engine light is still on. Does that need to be reset by the dealer?

If you don't have a hand-held tuner to do it yourself, take it to AutoZone or a similar place - they should have a scanner and can clear it for you, usually at no charge.

My CEL came on almost immediately when I swapped out the stock gas cap for a locking one that I had purchased from KC about two years ago! Disconnecting the negative ground on the bat for about 15 minutes to reset the computer did the trick.

Did the locking gas cap give you any more trouble after that??

None--life has been good for three months and numerous fill-ups!

You could disconnect the battery and wait 1 min rehook to reset. opps already said with regards to locking gas cap I had an 05 GT now an 07 GT/CS never an issue for me @ all

I think the EVAP system should do another check for vacumn leaks after a few starts. If it reads everything ok, it should clear the loose cap code. At least mine did.
