Yeah for me the Fox body is the least appealing too.

My 81 T-bird is built on a stretched Fox Chassis. It's not sporty or sexy like the S-197 but I can "see" similar elements in the interior and exterior design. The legroom and door swept angle (when you open it) feels the same too.

I gotta agree...
The new edges are just behind the classics to me ...

IDK. I love my 06 gt. Perfect in most ways for me.

Looks wise I think it is about perfect. The rear quarters could use a little more curves. And the front air dam could be a bit more aggressive.

The brakes could be a tad better. But I purchased shelby brembos that I might throw on in the spring. I am trying to decide if the GT brakes are that bad to warrent upgrading, they have never failed me yet on the street. I mainly bought the shelby conversion parts as I wanted to pick them up before they doubled in price to keep options open.

The car needs a little more torque (ie: cubic inches). A six speed would be nice.

But all in all the interior is fine. A little more leather and seat bolstering maybe. The stock clutch and brake pedal pads sucked but the shelby ones fixed that up. I have zero normal shifting problems after 6K miles. The clutch is just about perfect for a musclecar and is nice and predictable and holds well.

Right now I wouldent mind seeing a 18x9.5" polished bullitt rim that clears the shelby brakes.

The main thing is to do the above and stay around 3500lbs. This means aluminum engine, etc.

Just so you know, here is a list of the best to worst looking Mustangs:

#1. 69-70
#2. 2005+
#3. 67-68
#4. 1999 - 2004
#5. 65-66
#6. 1994 - 1998
#7. 71-73
#8. & #9. - tie for last place
74 - 78 Mustang II and 79 -93 Fox Mustang
just so you know, that's what we call an *opinion* But I agree, the 60's and the 05+ look better than all the rest of them.

As a slight aside, there are some threads here that talk about doing the brake conversion. There might be more involved that just swapping the parts, as the brake boosters and the ABS programming differences might upset the front-to-rear brake bias. I am not sure if anyone has successfully done this yet. Perhaps others can comment.

BACK TO TOPIC - I like the design cues on the "Italian Stallion" and hope a number of them are indeed reflective of the upcoming refresh.

I have no complaints about the brakes on the GT. Actually, several people that drove the GT commented on how well it brakes.

Yuck..they are a styling abortion compaired to the 94-98 and 05+ models. The never changed the roof from the 94-98 models and the new edge look added all sorts of scoops/spoilers that looked tacked on. The only "good" looking models where the SE's...Mach1, bullet, the Cobras.

2. Transmissions that go into gear without crunching or grinding or falling apart after a few thousand miles

I have trouble shifting into first after slowing down and coming to a stop. Sometimes have to go back into second to get the gears to engage. Almost like an old transmission w/o synchros. like to see that fixed for sure.

I noticed that too. I also missed 3rd gear several times and went right into 5th gear and without effort might I add. I had trouble downshifting into 2nd gear from 3rd gear but I never forced it. 3-4/4-3 wasn't a big deal though (no drama) as it just slipped right into place. For coming to a stop, I just shift into neutral and back into first gear when I'm ready to go. It's slow, but also smooth.

The Tri-ax is pretty good about keeping 3rd and 5th separated. I think that not pushing the clutch completely to the floor when shifting back into 1st makes it difficult to engage the gear. Hardly ever push the clutch all the way in to shift but almost have to make an effort to do that for putting the transmission in 1st gear.
