Questions about PPG Paints

Many years ago I did my own painting but I have not kept up with it and am now behind on knowledge of the latest products.

I want to paint some parts for my new Grabber Orange Mustang. I have a rear louver (aluminum), rear wing (abs) and some other miscelleanous items.

My local paint supplier carries PPG paints. What does PPG offer in the basecoat/clearcoat systems and which of them would be best if I am spraying in my garage? I would like to use a system that is a simple as possible and that does not require that I purchase large amounts of chemicals to do small jobs.

Do we have any paint experts here than can give me some advice?

Thanks!

Mark

You might want to try this web site: http://leopardsystems.com/paintucati...wforum.php?f=1

Kevin has had a couple of shows on cable, and has a great collection of videos. Someone on that site can probably help ya out.

Use PPGs DBC basecoat and PPG DCU2021 clear with DCX61 activator, make sure and get the "P" sheet and follow the instructions, you shouldnt have any problems, I have been usinf PPG for over 25 years and it has been very good to me!

good luck!

PPG has a head office or something near me here. Heard good stuff about them. Can't comment on the quality though, sorry .

All of my spray guns are "old school" (pre HVLP) so now I'm looking at buying some new guns. Looks like I will have a few new DeVilbiss'es in my future.

Any suggestions on a reasonably priced, portable compressor? The turbines are too expensive! What are my alternatives to get the required high volume?

get the biggest compressor you can afford, there is nothing more annoying than running low on air in the middle of a shoot.
Look at the Iwata spray guns, they have several very nice models that do a great job of painting small to medium size projects, but keep the old guns...they are like gold to some guys, its tough to find the good old stuff anymore.
